We’re thrilled to present ‘Hive-Minded’, a collaboration with pheel., and the final single from Smigonaut’s new album ‘Epitome’ – out today on all platforms.

With Epitome, Smigonaut expands his sonic world, delivering 12 immersive tracks that showcase the chiller side of his catalog. Known for bass-driven electronic productions infused with jazz and hip hop influences, he’s joined on this album by collaborators pheel., Drewidd, ZONE Drums, and GUNK (his duo with David Westbom). The result is a record that feels expansive yet grounded, a natural step forward in Smigonaut’s sound.

Epitome was released a year ago yesterday.

Still incredibly surreal to have this album out in the world, let alone for the past year. Albums are not an easy feat but I can genuinely say this was an absolute blast to make front to back. It felt good to really challenge myself to complete something I’d never done before and share a different side of myself. My aim was to make a purely ‘downtempo’ album but I think ultimately it turned into something more, and I could not be more proud of it.

Thanks to all the listeners who’ve enjoyed this album over the past year, you’re the friggin best. Also, if you are interested in purchasing Epitome on vinyl and have not done so yet, visit @therustmusic to snag yours today, very limited quantity left so act fast!

‘Sidetracked’ is 5 years old today 🌊 🦈

Release anniversaries are always an interesting time to reflect on who I was when the release in question was unleashed into the world, and how much has changed since, both internally as a person and out in the world, for better or worse. This beat tape was born of a desire to create a body of work leaning more on impulse and gut intent than anything else. I am still very proud of this one and am really happy even years later listening back, I think I managed to capture a really interesting flow amongst the tracks here. Would love to do something like this again. Maybe a Vol. 2 someday 🤔

I also gotta shoutout @duncan_hatch for lending his signature visual style to the album artwork and animations, adding an extra layer of depth to the strange universe in which these tracks occupy.

Some big life news incoming: Next stop DETROIT

Me and @deekush have had an incredible five years in Los Angeles, but it is now coming to a bittersweet end. A couple months back I was offered a job to design sounds for General Motors, and we’re off to Michigan so I can pursue this opportunity.

To all the friends and family in Los Angeles, we love you so much and would love to hang before we leave (which will be in late July). To any Detroiters, hello! We’re comin for ya 😈 🎶 🚘

Also was hoping to use ‘Lose Yourself’ as the accompanying soundtrack but the og version was not available so you’ll have to make do with this classic by @smigonaut
