This account is dedicated to the Giles Pond Memorial Foundation- Smiles 4 Giles. The foundation is dedicated to supporting national and local charities inspired by Giles’ values, passions, and things he loved. We are working to plan fundraising events to grow the foundation as well as bring all of Giles’ closest friends and family together. These events will be a time to celebrate him, share memories, and reflect on the joy he brought to all of us individually. Stay tuned for updates and announcements. I’ve reflected about what & how to write this unimaginable post for sometime. The thought of writing a one year remembrance for Giles is so unfathomable it’s almost comical. Yet, here we are daily with facts to re-digest and work to accept. Grieving Giles is a nonsensical process as he is such a source of light, laughter, knowledge, and comfort. There are many things we could tell you about Giles - he loved music, dogs, & ice cream. The discipline he had, how he adored his friendships, his contagious giggle. I could speak to his accomplishments in his 19 years or how hard working he was to achieve his goals. Those things do matter and we forever remember them. At the core, we miss Giles’ character, personality, and presence. I miss the way he made us feel, how he made us laugh, the inspiration he sparked, compassion he demonstrated, push he gave when he felt it necessary. I miss hearing what mattered to him and getting to be part of it. How he refused to kill a cockroach, standing on the table claiming he was allergic. The way he dipped his Milanos in water & his bacon in butter. How he napped in mass until he was far too old, used his sweaty hands as a weapon (honorable mention for the palm to Corbin’s face in mass). His raging fomo, passion for movies, love for sharing his passions. That he felt things deeply, thought deeply. How his character always showed through. The way he loved to dress nice, look nice, smell nice. But also loved his crocs. I do believe all these remain true to Giles, just in Heaven. I assume this because Giles is nothing if not authentic. Spending time with Giles is a treat - brain off, guaranteed laughter, possibly an in depth discussion, and a deepened relationship. Giles should be home this summer. The reality is his empty room, a fridge not as stocked, a house consistently quieter missing his giggles, joys, complaints, opinions, stories, and person. Nothing is easy, adjustable, or understandable. Nothing about this is Giles. But today, 365 days later, we are remembering the day Giles went to Heaven. We think about the person Giles showed up as. The gift he is to our lives. We see what matters & that time is a gift. Philippians 1:3 by @smiles4giles
WOW! We are at a loss of words. The first annual Jam For Giles was night to forever be remembered!
