Om Kali boys!
Got to paint this Vama Kali for @conjureyoga

This image has always stuck me, but I didnt understand what was going on for a long time.
Kali in her anger, having just slain the demon Raktabija, has her foot on her man Shivas chest. It’s an image of balance - of fury alongside Shivas presence.

My Protestant upbringing always shunned anger.
Anger was inappropriate. Impolite. Unfitting. Something to be bottled and buried.

Watching other cultures relate to their emotions in a different light helped build my understanding.

The world’s gotta change, and it’s gonna take a whole lot of fury to make that happen. Fury alongside presence. Alongside surrender. Fury and balance.

This painting was a real treat to make. Thankful for my yoga family, these practices, and all they’ve taught me ❤️‍🔥

Happy Dragon Con weekend boys! A time for all the folks to show up and show out. Such a privilege to have my Mars Attacks piece up alongside so much local talent.
Really blown away by the good folks @highcontrast_atl for putting on this show @truenorthprovisionsatl .
If you’re down town this weekend, swing on by for a bite, a bevy, and some sweet art.
Nothing but love for my city, and the weirdos who call it home 🥰
All this works for sale, you can find the link in my bio ❤️‍🔥 by @smilin_death

“ The story goes that these cicadas were once men… when the Muses were born and song appeared, some of the men were so overcome with delight that they sang and sang, forgetting food and drink, until at last they died. From them the cicadas arose, and they have this gift from the Muses, that from the time of their birth they need no sustenance, but sing continually, without food or drink, until they die, when they go to the Muses and report who honors each of them on earth”

I’ve always been a sucker for the classics ❤️

Yo, whtachu getting into Monday night? Wanna come out and see some art?
I’ll be getting back on stage for the first time in a long time for a stage-reading of Frank Siera’s new work Poetic Licence, at 7 Stages Theatre. This plays a heavy hitter, a mostly true story of controversial British playwright Joe Orton and his partner Ken. A clear biting look at theatre, normalcy, and living as a gay man in a time when homosexuality was considered a crime and mental illness (times a flat circle ain’t she). This shows a wild ride, and not for the family.
Come on out Monday night at 7:30. Tickets are free, and you can snag one on 7 Stages website. Can’t wait to see ya there. by @smilin_death

Today, I’m in class at the very same hospital I was born in 30 years ago.
Age is just a number - but chapters and seasons and cycles, those are real. The wheels have been really tuning this last year.
I can feel a shift from wanting a life that looks good, to nurturing a life that feels good. My people, my art, my travels, these are the things that fill my cup. That are worth living.
My 20’s were rich, man. Lots of learning and growing and loss and failure and surprise and discovery and support. Felt like learning how to walk.
Facing challenges, and running away from challenges, wearing myself thin, and filling myself up. Every step forward, backwards and side to side got me here.
Just really grateful for all the people in my life that make this ride worth it.
Here’s to another decade of breaking down and building up (solve and coagula). Happy birthday to me 🥰 by @smilin_death

Yo Atlanta!
Have ya noticed ya Ga Power bill’s higher than it used to be? Theres a good reasom for that. The Public Service Comission should be in charge of keeping GA Power in check. But the two boys we got in there are happily approving every price hike GA Power wants. Nothing like living real life Monoploy.
Lets change that. Early voting is this week. Voting day’s next tuesday. Check online to find ya nearest early voting location. by @smilin_death

What a treat to show this piece @abvgallery for their newest show, No Rain, No Flowers. In partnership with @atlantaagainstcancer
