🎲 SPIEL ESSEN PREPARATION..... THE DICE NEST WAY! 🙈

Four beautiful new games have arrived here at The Dice Nest and ALL FOUR were on our @spiel_messe wishlist! 😍😁

But wait.... isn't Spiel Essen next week? Why are we buying games NOW you ask?!

Well we have a rule when it comes to Essen. Don't buy what you can already buy in the UK or what will be readily available shortly afterwards.

So naturally, we've been doing some essential pre-Essen shopping. It's strategic, you see 👀

✨️Fewer games on the wishlist = more time to explore the convention.
✨️ Less time hunting down games we already know we want.
✨️ More precious suitcase space for bringing home alternative treasures!

Anyway, here's what's arrived:

🌲 Trial of the Forest @rebelstudio.eu – A narrative adventure through an ever changing forest. Peaceful foraging or absolute woodland chaos? We're intrigued!

🌙 Evenglow @theopgames – A gorgeous little strategy game about balancing sunlight and moonlight gardens, growing magical plants and brewing potions. Beautiful artwork AND puzzly tile placement? Yes please!

🍄 Seeker of Spells @mindwaretoys – Mushroom wizards competing for magical spellbooks in a shifting forest. Secret movement, clever positioning and a little magical mischief!

🧚 Devious @smirkanddagger – Faerie alliances, sneaky card manipulation and anti-set collection... bit different amd intriguing!

These were all absolute wishlist certainties for us, so why not commit now and spend more time discovering the unexpected at Spiel Essen?

Welcome home, beautiful games! 🥰

Does our Essen preparation strategy make perfect sense or are we just exceptionally good at justifying buying more games? 😂

If Noodle could talk, they would say “Hey, don’t worry. You're doing just fine. Also, I’m sleeping on your forehead tonight.”

If your cat could talk, what would they say?

DEVIOUS is a beautifully twisted “anti-set collection” card game full of bluffing, sabotage, and shifting fortunes.

It’s Spooky Season again, and we’ve got you covered with games that will bring the thrills and chills. Some are new and some are classic, but from beginning gamers to experienced ones, everyone should enjoy them. Here are our recommendations for…

5 GAMES THAT ARE PERFECT FOR SPOOKY SEASON:

1.) Aberration - is a thrilling, cooperative tower defense experience and a harrowing blend of horror and survival that features worker placement, bag building, and asymmetric player powers. And lots of scary creatures.

2.) The Night Cage - a cooperative horror-themed tile placement game that traps 1 to 5 lost souls within an otherworldly labyrinth where your only light is a slowly melting candle. What was that deep growling noise?

3.) The Fury of Dracula - the evil one himself has confirmed your worst fears by rising once again and casting his evil shadow over Europe. Can you stop the bloodshed once and for all?

4.) Betrayal At House On The Hill - no one can remember who lived there or what happened to them, but you all decide to explore anyway. Now the house has plans and someone will betray you all…

5.) Horrified - a city screams in terror as classic monsters go on a rampage. Each has a unique ability and players must overcome them all before the horror overwhelms and all is lost!

Tell us: Have you tried any of these? What games would make your top five spooky season games list? Please let us know in the comments. It’s that time of year and we hope to try them all!

Man, this box just hit my table and the faerie artwork alone had me hyped before I even cracked it open. Devious from @smirkanddagger is an anti-set collection card game where you're building a faerie alliance, but holding too many from one band tanks your score fast. Popping the lid for the first time and seeing all thirteen faerie suits laid out is exactly why I love unboxing these smaller card games. The card quality feels great, and the artwork's got this playful, mischievous energy that matches the name perfectly. This is one of those games where the theme and the mechanics feel like they're in on the same joke, Cousins.

Cousins, we've got a fresh unboxing on deck and this one's got wings — literally! Trickarus, published by @smirkanddagger has this flying-toward-the-sun trick-taking concept that had me curious the second I heard about it. Popping the lid and seeing the component layout for the first time is always my favorite part of this job, and this one didn't disappoint. The colors on this box just pop, and the card quality feels like it's built for a lot of table time. I haven't even played a hand yet and I'm already hooked on the concept, so stick around because this one's about to hit the table.
