Zane wrote in his books, so as I’m preparing for his celebration of life, I’m going through his collection. We’re hoping everyone can take a book because to read one feels like reading a book with Zane. by @smithzette

bowled over by this stunningly thoughtful and detailed review of WAKING UP FROM A NAP ON A LONG DAY OF DOING NOTHING by @portlandmercury arts & culture editor @smithzette

thank you so much to Suzette and the Mercury for platforming our little movie and hopefully getting it in front of the eyes of more Portlanders. the Mercury has always uplifted my voice, going back 16 years (before the Radiohead-influenced “h” addition, see final slide).

we have 8 tickets left to see the short at @moviemadness_pdx tomorrow evening (Friday, July 3rd) and tickets also just went on sale for Thank God It’s Queer: GO with WAKING UP FROM A NAP ON A LONG DAY OF DOING NOTHING hosted by @notcarlarossi at the @hollywoodtheatr on August 17th at 7:30pm. Tickets for both at the link in my bio. taken in Portland, Oregon by @smithzette

On Saturday, October 18, ICE agents used a barrage of tear gas, stun (flashbang) grenades, and pepper bullets on demonstrators, leaving the neighborhood street in front of their building filled with gas for at least 10 minutes.

The unmatched, violent response by the agents began when they wanted to clear the driveway to let some vehicles exit, but protesters were blocking the gate. Agents deployed the majority of the “less lethal” munitions after they were already back inside the gate.

More on this and the No Kings rally, held during the day at the Portland waterfront, at portlandmercury.com taken in Portland, Oregon by @smithzette

Stills from 10-18-2025 protests at ICE facility in South Portland, following the Oct 18 No Kings march downtown.

Contrasting with No Kings—reportedly 50,000 in size—these demonstrators only numbered 400-500. A notable amount were costumed. They weathered tear gas and flash bang grenades, used by ERO agents to clear the driveway. Agents also attempted to arrest a mime. by @smithzette
