Didn’t catch that? In 1930, My ancestor, John Essex, a Black farmer and entrepreneur in Marengo Co., Alabama (outside of Demopolis) donated 20 acres of land and money to build the first black school in the county. In 2014, the school closed due to low enrollment.

In 2022, a few of his descendants purchased the abandoned school and started renovating and restoring the building …. Fast forward to 2024, we celebrate history, pride, family & community by hosting the first Juneteenth Festival for All for FREE!!

My family is HUMBLE but there’s much to celebrate and be PROUD of !

Coming soon, I’ll show the progress of renovations…. Just know, what we purchased was not the condition in which the last graduating class saw! Stay Tuned!!
