Our #WeLoveBookshops feature invites fabulous guests to talk about the magic of bookshops 📚🪄

This month we’re joined by @smorrellauthor, author of A Head Full of Magic, to chat with us about her brilliant local @read.holmfirth 💛

“Bookshops are magical. Especially independent ones and certainly those in Yorkshire where I live. I enjoy visiting bookshops on barges, up hills, and along cobbled streets. My personal favourite is Read. in Holmfirth, which is nestled inside a friendly bubble where those inside have the power to help you find the perfect book, try something new, and rarely leave empty-handed!

It’s more than a good gossip about the latest releases; it’s about supporting readers and writers, exchanging knowledge, and bringing people together through a shared love of storytelling. Not at the same time, but at a time that’s right for you. When you’ve got five minutes to look. When you need five minutes to escape. Owners James and Louise, and their books, are patiently waiting with the pages poised to pull you in.”

The tan might have faded but my holiday reads are still firmly etched in my mind!!🏝️📚👌

What an incredible stack of stories I recently had time to read and thoroughly enjoy poolside!!🥰

@kimberlywhittam_ @niylafarook @amhowellwrites @mattgoodfellowpoet @stevencoleauthor thank you for keeping me hooked and please, please, please don’t put your pens down anytime soon!! ✍️🙏

I’ll be honest- the run up to summer was manic and I hadn’t realised how much I’d got out of the habit of reading for fun or helping to switch off at the end of a busy day. 🧘‍♀️

Sometimes life gets in the way and I’m sure at some point, it will again too but for now, I’m loving being back in the reading zone and uncovering the mysteries, the magic and the hard hitting messages contained within the pages.📕

As a writer I’m feeling inspired, as a parent better connected to the books and issues being discussed at school and as a reader I’m excited to start compiling my next TBR pile…

…as if I needed an excuse to buy or borrow more books?! 🤭✍️ 🥰 📚

Very grateful for an epic summer of adventures and family time (particularly now the kids are back in school…the house is quiet and my fridge is how I left it!!🤣)

I’m definitely missing the sunrise swims, our fabulous friends, birthday celebrations, circus capers, Spanish chilling, Yorkshire jaunts and the time to read lots of books but I’m also ready for a little normality now too!!
☀️🌅 🏊 🌊 🎂 🎪 🇪🇸 🍹🏄 🏝️ 📚

Onward th’autumn and all the fun that it brings…more on that shortly!!
✍️📚🍂 🧘🎃🔥👻💪

I wanted to share my thoughts on #InternationalYouthDay yesterday, but making cereal box eclipse glasses took hold instead!!🌒 👓 😬🤣

Hopefully the sentiments still hold good for today…🤞

Kindness counts 🥰 Remember this means towards yourself as much as others…

Dream YOUR dream😴 Big or small, silly or sensible…it’s yours and yours alone. If you think you can do it, you absolutely can…

Own your mistakes 🙌 They happen…saying sorry is a strength…learning from them a super power…

Allow time to grow 🪴 Ask questions, face fears, try something new but focus on the goals you believe in because the marathon is equally as valuable as the sprint…

You got this!!💪 Be your greatest supporter and encourage others along the way because the chances are…they’ll be there to encourage you if you need it too…

Hope is magic… 🌈 Embrace all of life’s little miracles…the what if’s, the possibilities and make sure to have fun along the way:)

Now back to the heatwave and book plotting… ☀️

A nice whizz over the hills to catch up with James from @the_rebel_reading_society this afternoon:)
🚗 ⛰️👌📚

Also great to meet lots of indie authors and illustrators who were out celebrating their books as part of ICAN’s first Children’s Lit Festival in Ilkley…🎉 ✍️ 🎨

I was too busy chatting to take more photos but came away with an impressive haul of bookmarks and lots of lovely new connections:)

An exciting planning meeting with Mark @kirkleeslibraries today:)👌📝

Looking forward to running a series of fun events in the autumn when Huddersfield’s shiny new library will be ready to welcome everyone in!! 📚 🎉

And no…I definitely did not rearrange some of my favourite authors books alongside mine when nobody was looking!! 🤫🤣
