Gemini season. Everyone else can wait.

Old bones, new energy. Used to be a Brazilian steakhouse. Sits above a Brazilian bakery. Now it’s the Gemini, and it’s a whole thing. Warm wood everywhere. CDs only, because some of us have taste. Sound system follows you room to room.
Bar’s good. Amaros excellent. Wine better. I sat next to the wine bath and won’t lie, I thought about getting in.

My stomach was in retrograde walking in and full moon by the time I left. Menu hits, no exceptions. No overthinking it like a Virgo. No back and forth like a Libra. Just say yes. Go hungry, leave wrecked, no regrets. Twins welcome. Everyone else, fine, come too.

Slithered out of the blazing Dundas & Ossington sun and into Mickey Limbo’s with a group of cretins. Full 1970s New York City lounge. Life meets a Scorsese set. That bar? Absolutely gorgeous. The kind you pull up to and unload all your problems on an unsuspecting bartender over countless martinis until they regret coming into work. Sink into a booth and never want to peel yourself out of it. Staff so charming it’s almost suspicious. Menu affordable and unfussy, which in this city deserves a damn standing ovation. And do not, I repeat, do not skip the Girl Dinner Martini. Salty, spicy, herbaceous. Will do things to you. Goodfellas on the TV. Obviously. Lardo.

Sexy vibes from the second you walk in. Rooms full of characters huddled over their delectable plates, regulars holding court at the bar, Negronis and wine flowing endlessly, glasses clinking in every direction.

Dim lighting, loud laughter, beautiful chaos. Every order is the right move. An amaro collection that will make your head spin, and just enough charm in the room to convince you to stay for “one more” until you’ve overstayed your welcome and are wishing the staff a good night as they spill out into the City’s streets.

One of my favorite Italian bites at the moment.

교포 (Gyopo) = ethnic Korean living abroad. These guys bottled that homesick longing and made you DRINK it.

Walked into @gyopo_brewery_ on Dundas West. Teleported to a Seoul pocha alley.

They’re brewing makgeolli ON-SITE. Knock back some of that that milky, fizzy, slightly funky fermented rice wine in flavours like jasmine, yuzu, and perilla. On DRAFT baby! Paired that Korean nectar with charcoal cabbage, pajeon, and dakhalbi and suffered an emotional blackout.

Stumbled back onto Dundas a salary man. 🍶🫠

Take a day off, head to Geary, and find some peace.

Step 1: pray for a short wait at @famiglia_baldassarre and secure whatever you can. On this particular day it was tagliatele al ragù and spinach and ricotta ravioli al bianco. Topped off with a bb tiramisù.

Step 2: head to @generalpublic201 and post up at the bar. Grab a cold one and patiently wait for half a duzzie and some English chips.

Step 3: Nirvana. Open your third eye, or your third stomach.

Stumbled into a “new” tavern in the Beaches that feels like it survived three recessions.

Tiffany lamps making you look better than you have any business looking.
Checkered tile with maximum patina.
Vintage ads straight out of your dad’s old Playboy stack.
Playlist from your childhood (80s and 90s babies only)

A collab between the minds behind Seoul Shakers and Otherside Pizza (this space formerly hosting the pizzeria itself) — divey, but dialed.

Snackrifices:

Devilled eggs—One bite. Non-negotiable.
Naked oysters (Bloody Mary option if you must).
Steak tartare with a proper Korean lean.
OS house salad keeping things honest.
Mama’s kimchi pork ribs — eats closer to a pork bone stew. Delish.
OG Mickie’s Burger — 7oz patty. Remember to breathe.
Small, thoughtful wine list. Yes, orange wine is pouring.

If Seoul Shakers or Hanmoto is your speed, add it to the rotation.

Don’t tell them I sent you.
