Ireland's pilot programme began in September 2022 and has just been extended by six months.

2,000 artists and arts workers currently receive the €325 weekly payment

Early research has found that after six months, artists receiving the weekly payment reported improvements in mental wellbeing. Recipients also said they were spending eight hours a week more on their artistic practice, on average.

A report published by the Irish government in May found that participants reported increased autonomy, a sense of validation in their profession, and a reduction in financial anxiety.

In Ireland, for every €1 invested by the state, society gained €1.39 in return.

We’re very excited to see our new Collections on Camera film club featured by SNACK Magazine!

The series brings together feminist film, our collections and the people and stories connected to them - creating a space to watch, chat, explore and discover more about the histories held at Glasgow Women’s Library.

As SNACK puts it, it’s “feminist film, tea & a warm welcome” - which sounds pretty much perfect to us.

The series kicks off next Thursday, 1 October, with Cheryl Dunye’s The Watermelon Woman, introduced by Shola von Reinhold. Over the following months, we’ll be screening Sisters with Transistors, Bye Bye Tiberias, Blue Jean and Whip It, each paired with material from our collections and special guests.

We’re so excited to share these films, stories and collections with you.

It’s surreal to think that in over thirty years of existence, till now Saint Etienne had never played Glasgow’s Barrowland.

And it’s even more wild when you consider their debut performance at the venue would be their last in Scotland.

London trio Sarah Cracknell, Bob Stanley and Peter Wiggs were on their farewell tour before calling it a day. A victory lap and a chance for us to celebrate one of the most revered acts of their generation.

Their music was often like a much-needed hug from a long-lost friend. One that would cheer you up and reassure you that things would be okay before taking you by the hand and leading you to the indie disco dancefloor.

You could tell the emotions got to singer Cracknell. Now and again she’d compose herself by looking up at the famous star-covered ceiling, or she’d close her eyes and take a moment.
