I’m teaching hand building at @caitlinprince_ceramics again 🤍

I love the smooth brain effects of a leisurely hand building session.

11 am - 3 pm 🌀 Saturday, December 27th

Come make a big boi planter or a handful of something smaller.

There will be snacks and tea, and time for a lunch break, too.

Those days between Christmas and NYE are such a blur. Ditch the scroll and come anchor in your creativity!

It's medicinal!!

Come teach a date night with me at @caitlinprince_ceramics!

Yes I mostly teach hand building, but I love a wheel moment, too!

The perfect way to get a taste before signing up for a 4 or 6 week class 💕

We teach you how to throw and we take care of the rest (trimming and firing and glazing).

🌀 I hadn’t been in the studio all summer, it felt so good to be back 🌀

I kept Paolo at home this time (8 students was enough to wrangle 😅) but next time, he's coming, too! by @snacksceramics

Hand thrown babies out in the wild 🤩🤩🤩

I made these for @shophacienda this summer. My first ever wholesale order 🥲. Special thanks to @rovisceramics for the throwing assistance. Wouldn’t have been able to get 75 cups out the door with a smile on my face without you.

The cups were shipped to Ontario, where they were filled with a custom soy candle blend designed by @kp_powers (who was an absolute pleasure to work with!!)

Love that when you’re done burning the candle, you’re left with a forever vessel you can drink tea out of, use as a pencil holder, bud vase, whatever you like.

Want to dream up custom ceramics for *your* shop? Reach out! It was so fun combining clay bodies, shapes and finishes to suit the @shophacienda brand. taken in Victoria, British Columbia by @snacksceramics

A very special order is off to @shophacienda today 🫶🏻

Loved working with @kp_powers on the design, @rovisceramics on the production, and @caitlinprince_ceramics on the shipping.

I could never do production alone. So much better done together.

These special pieces are making one more pit stop at another creative women’s studio before they reach the shelves of @shophacienda but I’ll keep that part a secret for now. 🤐

I tagged the song Caitlin and I were acapella-ing to while we packed up the order.

It’s kinda perfect. Shaping earth into a more stable form to be enjoyed for years to come 🥲

Ah the romance of ceramics.

Thanks for being here! My first wholesale order, officially out the door 🥹 by @snacksceramics

Dropped off a new set of vases at @shop_openhouse.

Took their photo in the beautiful light at @caitlinprince_ceramics studio, where I made them.

Studiomates, therapists, friends, bandmates, a mix of all the above.

I love getting to hang out with these two women on the regular.

That’s our queen mother @caitlinprince_ceramics up top, and @rovisceramics (Rita!) on the right and meeee @snacksceramics (Katrina!) on the left.

Rita is a wheel throwing maven and world’s sweetest most beautiful cherub. But don’t fuck with her. She also knows up and I cherish her protective energy. She also teaches workshops on how to work with 999 silver clay to make hand sculpted jewelry (I’ve done and loved, highly recommend).

Caitlin is a badass owner/operator of the studio. I’m inspired by the risks she takes to build community around ceramics. And she does it with so much heart. Keeping class sizes small, and the vibes impeccable.

Caitlin and I met around this time last year when I had just moved to the island and she was about to. I feel so lucky to have found a creative home, and friends I can share life with. Literally have cried and read my journal out loud in the studio multiple times.

In a time where most people aren’t into church/religion I feel finding a community where you can belong emotionally and creatively is one hell of a gift.

And this photo was taken by @notmymango (Bryanna!) on film, lucky us. I don’t get to see as much of Bryanna at the studio because she’s also a full time student (and a very grounded, zen content creator… v inspiring to me). She’s also a wheel throwing angel. 🌀

Just a little howdy/shout out to some of my fave creative women for you. by @snacksceramics

Wheel thrown cups!

Some of my favourite shapes to throw. They are so nice to hold in the hands and easily double as a small vase.

This perfectly mismatched set (if I do say so myself) went home with @halfcirclecircle, a very special human. by @snacksceramics

Some hand building ASMR for you 😚

I fell in love with the scoring rib last night!

I was working with the last of my Georgie’s coffee clay which was kind of dry and the scoring rib really helped me pull everything together and keep the clay workable.

The coffee clay gave me major trouble when I was using it marbled with other Georgie’s clay bodies on the wheel (it feels tougher than most, wouldn’t recommend for mixed throwing).

It also gave me trouble in the kiln (lots of bubbling).

So I just went in on a mission to use it up and not care too much. I wish I took a shot of the giant coil vase I made first. It was kind of epic but I didn’t like it. So I smooshed it and then power build this thing. Which I loveeee!

And the clay oddly remained workable after all that working.

It looks like this clay body isn’t available anymore but I would totally hand build with it again. I loved it!

it just goes to show you that if you don’t like the clay in one application, you just might love it in another, with the right tools.

Want to work on your hand building skills? I’m teaching Saturday at @caitlinprince_ceramics. You’re totally welcome to smoosh a piece and start over as many times as you like 😇. And I make snacks. Obvi.

Side note: you know you were in the zone when you leave the studio with sunglasses still on your head in the dark. Ahhhh hand building. Best mediation around. by @snacksceramics

I took my first official ceramics course at Mohwalk College in 2017, the same year I started my sexology practice. At the time, a business coach told me I needed to invest in play to stay balanced. Best advice ever.

I played with clay as a kid, but never on the wheel. Much to my amazement, it wasn’t as hard as I thought (this time 🤣). Every piece still felt like an off-chance miracle, but I was *doing it.*

In 2019, I had the privilege of doing an in-studio intensive with @lovepotterystudio and I learned more in those two days than I had in 4 months at college. I’m an immersive learner, so this was an ideal environment.

I was inspired to see how one woman (plus an occasional part-time assistant) could create and sell enough work to provide for her family. This is where I learned how to save time (trimming? Who needs it?) while still making things beautiful (porcelain slip-painted on a tan speckled clay body does wonders to jazz up a piece with very little effort). I am forever grateful for those days with Tara.

In 2021, I moved to Montreal and signed up for a six-week level 2 class at @atelierforma. I remember crying after my first session because I felt so far beyond my level. But I learned a lot there.

I learned that it took approximately 90 minutes to find my groove, which usually meant I had only 15 minutes of being in the groove before it was time to clean up. I learned that wedging makes a bigger difference than you think for centring, and throwing when hungry never freaking works.

After my session at @atelierforma, I knew I needed a wheel to call my own. And so I bought a wheel! I set up a little studio inside @sanctuairedesfemmes (my other creative project at the time), and that thing was the best COVID companion. Insomnia? Get up and make something.

Cont’d in the comments!

Big thanks to @notmymango for capturing my joy in the studio on film 😚 by @snacksceramics

Love this little double bubble cup, and it’s drippy glaze action!

My dear friend @maylindstromskin had one shaped like this at her house when I went to visit last year, and it was my favourite to drink out of. So I recreated it!

And now this one is going home with @halfcirclecircle this weekend. I love how ceramics ties me to special people 🥰 by @snacksceramics
