POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In early September I found two monarch caterpillars in my yard and decided to foster them till they became butterflies, to make sure they didn’t get eaten by predators. Here are pics of the first one on release day. The location was a friend’s garden which was full of goldenrod and asters, which could provide it with a snack before it started its migration south. by @snailypoo

This month’s full moon is 24 hours away but it looked full on my walk tonight. Here are some pics that aren’t that great but at least show the atmosphere (and at the end, a cat in my neighbor’s window). by @snailypoo

Spring violas reviving with the cooler weather; a volunteer snapdragon; the only white hibiscus among all the pink ones in my backyard; flowers on a dwarf hosta; a spotted petunia; a red clover flower; and a 🐝 that nestled under a blossom on the butterfly weed, apparently for the night. by @snailypoo

This is the time of year when the milkweed blossoms open and fill the yard with the most wonderful fragrance. All kinds of insects also enjoy it and the leaves will be the place where monarch butterflies will lay their eggs. And if we’re lucky, some will go through their life cycle and become more butterflies who will eventually migrate to Mexico. by @snailypoo

I have an Alberta spruce that recently seems to have decided to become a different kind of tree entirely. It’s quite mysterious. I wonder if all Alberta spruces have the potential to be bigger and more spiky trees waiting to burst out. by @snailypoo
