All you need is LOVE

at GRY STAND, Kagawa @grystand

Following its debut at BAR ORAI in New York in May 2026 and its current presentation at WATOWA GALLERY in Tokyo through September 6, the solo exhibition “All you need is LOVE” continues its journey to GRY STAND in Kagawa, opening August 8.

With the simple message, “There is not enough love in the world,” at its core, the exhibition presents a series of works that take as their point of departure an homage to Robert Indiana’s iconic LOVE.

SNEAKERWOLF has developed a distinctive visual language rooted in Edomoji, a traditional form of Japanese decorative lettering, reconstructing the Latin alphabet through the structural principles of kanji. Historically rooted in popular and commercial culture, Edomoji is characterized by its ornamental forms and rhythmic qualities, as well as a sensibility that treats text not simply as something to be read, but as something to be seen. SNEAKERWOLF regards this as one of the earliest forms of proto-graffiti and has developed this perspective throughout his practice.

While rooted in Edomoji—a visual culture unique to Japan—his work traverses boundaries between different cultures, periods, and systems of value, allowing multiple interpretations to coexist. In doing so, it questions established divisions between East and West, tradition and innovation, fine art and street art. This very ambiguity has remained a consistent theme throughout SNEAKERWOLF’s practice.

As this project unfolds across three distinct locations, it takes on new interpretations through its dialogue with the particular cultures and values of each place. At the same time, the project seeks to reconsider existing boundaries between the urban and the regional, the center and the periphery.

WATOWA GALLERYは、現代アーティスト MOTOKI TAKENAKA a .k.a SNEAKERWOLF（スニーカーウルフ／本名モトキタケナカ）による個展「All you need
is LOVE」を、2026年7月4日より開催いたします。

Sneakerwolf こと MOTOKI TAKENAKA は、Robert Indiana による象徴的な「LOVE」へのオマージュを起点とした新作を発表する。
本展は、ポップアートの重要な作家であるRobert Indianaの「LOVE」作品に着想を得ている。言語とイメージ、大衆文化と美術の境界を横断するその表現は、本作の重要な出発点となっている。
Sneakerwolfは、日本の伝統的な江戸文字を基盤とする独自の視点からこのモチーフにアプローチする。
もともと民衆的・商業的文脈に根ざしていた江戸文字が持つ装飾性やリズム、そして文字を“読むもの”ではなく“見るもの”として提示する感覚は、世界最古のグラフィティ的表現のひとつとも捉えられる。
この視点を現代のグラフィティ的な視覚表現として再解釈し、現代美術の文脈へと再配置することで、東洋と西洋、伝統と革新、雅と俗といった二項の境界は、ゆるやかに揺らいでいく。こうした境界を横断し続ける姿勢は、Sneakerwolfの作品に通底する思想である。
本展では、漢字の構造原理を用いてアルファベットを再構築する独自の手法により、「LOVE」という語を再編成する。そこでは「LOVE」は読む対象としてではなく、分解と再構築を繰り返す視覚的構造として提示される。

世界には愛が足りない。
アーティストやミュージシャン、映画の中でどれだけ愛が語られても、争いや差別はなくならない。
自分が言ったところで何かが変わるとは思っていないけど、意志は示しておきたい。
