✨ HELLO ✨
⁣
Welcome to the new faces around; hello again to those that’ve stuck around 🤗 I’m so glad to have YOU here 💕
⁣
If we aren’t on a first name basis yet, hi! I’m Jessica, the knitter and designer behind Snickerdoodle Knits. 🤗💕
⁣
I learned (& re-learned) how to knit multiple times in middle and high school but never took it seriously. I’ve always enjoyed dabbling in crafts: for a while latch hook was my “thing;” when my youngest sibling was born, I made him a baby hat (with loom knitting) that he wore home from the hospital; and then in middle school my go-to was sewing. I never dreamed of turning a hobby into a business.
⁣
I was always very dedicated to my academics and loved math. I’d considered pursuing a creative career (photography or graphic design), but with some outside influence decided on architectural engineering. It seemed like it’d be the perfect blend of math and art.
⁣
Halfway through college, I discovered it wasn’t going to lead where I thought, but my university didn’t have an alternative that interested me, so I completed my degree and upon graduating, started to work in interior design.
⁣
Just five months after graduating, I found myself with no job in a small college town with minimal job opportunities. I’d made a friend a year earlier who was an indie dyer (@sixandsevenfiber), and as a result had re-learned how to knit again during my last semester of college.
⁣
When everything seemed like it’d fallen apart, I realized this was the best opportunity I’d ever get to start an Etsy shop. I began to knit for craft fairs and quickly discovered it couldn’t last. I was getting bored, and the super bulky knits were hard on my body.
⁣
Six months after launching my Etsy shop, I published my first pattern and within a couple months discovered this was *the* career for me: the perfect combination of math and art; freedom and challenge; community and individuality.
⁣
Fast forward to a little over a year later: I’m happily creating knitting patterns for you that are beautiful, simplistic to knit, and easy to follow. Patterns that make YOU confident and joyful in your knitting. 💕

✨ What I Do As a Knitwear Designer ✨

First of all, what do you say that I do? What do I create? Go ahead and hop in the comments to share what you think I do! 😀

Done?

Alright, here’s what I think I do ~ or at least what I strive to do.

I design beautiful knitwear accompanied with clear, step by step instructions that walk you through the knit with confidence and pride. What’s all that to say?

I’m working to make your knitting experience the very best it can be. Each design I create is beautiful, but it’s also fun and engaging to knit. I tend to keep away from anything complex that would require 100% of your concentration.

I also design knits that I like to knit: something that isn’t monotonous or boring, that changes every once in a while, and with a bit of texture. I also like to include options so you can customize the design to be just what you want. Because, ultimately, the goal is that you’ll use and love the finished object!

So, that’s the design part, but the design bit is actually only a fraction of the process.

Because then we get into the pattern itself. Remember what I said about knitting my patterns with confidence?

I write my patterns to make them as clear and easy to follow as possible. I hire a tech editor to ensure the pattern is clear and accurate, and then I have multiple test knitters work through the pattern to confirm it is easy to follow.

I then provide all of the resources I can think of to answer any questions you might have. Within the pattern this includes linked video tutorials for any techniques that might be new to you.

Outside of the pattern (but linked in the pattern) are a yarn recommendation blog post (with colors and affordable yarns), a design overview video, and detailed information on the pattern page.

All of this information helps you feel confident with your purchase of your pattern, the selection of your yarn, and then the knit itself.

What do you think? If you’ve knit one of my patterns, would you agree?

P.S. Coming soon: changes to the Snickerdoodle Knits Community (currently split between Patreon and Discord) to add even more confidence (+ community!) to your knitting 🙌🏽 by @snickerdoodleknits

If you’ve been around for very long, you probably know I care a lot about intentionality. It’s something I think about all the time – in parenting, in relationships, and yes, of course, in knitting.

The reason I feel so passionately about intentional knitting is because I have a lot of knits I wasn’t intentional about when I made them. I chose the yarn becase it was the cheapest option, or it was a hand-me-down from someone. I chose the pattern because it was free, or it was in a book I’d bought (on clearance), or it just caught my eye.

As a result, I have a lot of knits I don’t love. And that makes me really sad. I poured so much time and energy into them, and now they sit away in a corner, untouched.

Now my process for choosing yarns (both fiber content and color) and patterns is much different. Much more intentional.

And I love to share that with you, too. 💛

Because I know there’s a lot of knitters out there like me. Making choices based on trends or budget or whims… and then feeling sad that those knits don’t get the love that you want them to.

If this resonates with you, I have both a planner and a class that I think you’ll love. And yes, they’re both 30% off this weekend for the Belated 30th Birthday Bash sale (coupon: BIRTHDAY30)!

✨ Knits You’d Make Twice class ✨
In this mini-course, you’ll learn how to plan projects that match your style, get worn on repeat, and spark pure joy.

✨ Plan, Knit, Love: The Intentional Project Planner ✨
A beautiful, printable planner bundle designed to help you choose projects you’ll love to wear, use, and enjoy making.

Here’s to more knits you love to make AND use!
