Reflecting on My Journey Through Iceland 🇮🇸 🩵

It’s so hard to explain, but once you’ve experienced that “fire and ice” feeling, you’ll never be able to shake it.

Today I was thinking about Blue Lagoon and how incredible I felt during and after the experience. These geothermal waters definitely have healing properties.

Named one of 25 wonders of the world by National Geographic in 2012, the Blue Lagoon was honored for its unique geothermal seawater. Found nowhere else on earth, this renowned resource is rich in silica, algae, and minerals—the elements that give the lagoon its skin-nourishing powers.

Opt for the Premium Admission which includes bathrobe, three masks from the Mask Bar, two drinks of your choice, use of sauna/steam room/steam cave. Additional upgrades for in water massage and float therapy are also available. In Sept 2023, I had an absolutely epic five week stretch of concerts (that I *still* think about all the time). Pearl Jam x2 in MN (was in the pit for one of those!), PJ in Chicago, Smashing Pumpkins at Pine Knob, Duran Duran in Detroit, Nothing But Thieves in Detroit, AWOLNATION in GR, NBT again in Chicago, and Depeche Mode in Detroit. Seriously, five weeks of seeing some of my all time favorite bands…. and a heck of a lot of driving. 🙈 I don’t know how I managed to pack that much amazing music into such a short amount of time, and I don’t think it will ever be topped again. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think about the 90s version of Steph and wish she could get a little glimpse of her future. I think she’d see that everything turns out OK, that she grows up to be pretty damn cool, has a ton of fun, and never loses that part of herself that loves music so much.

“Today is the greatest day I’ve ever known. Can’t live for tomorrow. Tomorrow’s much too long.”

I was such a huge alt rock fan in the 90s, and some things never change. There are definitely more epic road trips in my future. I just hope the video quality gets better. 😆🤘🏼 🖤 🎶

When you’ve been to so many concerts you forget half of them! 😂🤘🏼🙈 So yeah… @styxtheband and Mr. Roboto! 🤖🎶 This was in 2024 and Foreigner and John Waite were also there. I referred to this night as the “TSO of rock” on account of all the lasers. 😂

Capped off a fabulous week with a beautiful early Saturday morning walk around downtown GR after breakfast. ☕️ 🌅

I was also able to spend some time with one of my besties who lives almost 2h away. The sweetest soul, my sounding board, my endless laughter, and the one who just gets me. So much love, understanding, and effortless fun wrapped into one beautiful friendship. Counting down the days until we’re in TC @lorirach 🤎🍁 🍂

A swanky dinner at Rix inside Ada Hotel with great company was the perfect night out. ✨🥂

I cherish friendships where you can be yourself without having to overexplain. ❤️ Also, the love and respect these two share, both in their marriage and in the way they live their lives, is truly inspiring. I’m thankful our paths crossed years ago and that our friendship continues to grow. Some people quietly make your life better just by being part of it, and these two beautiful souls certainly do.

Even though I am not originally from MI, I have been to just about every concert venue in Detroit. Somehow the historic Masonic Temple @masonicdet had eluded me until now. What an absolutely magnificent place to experience a show this week.

Built in 1926, this Gothic Revival masterpiece is the largest Masonic temple in the world. The grand auditorium (capacity 4,400) has showcased generations of legendary musicians and even served as home to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

I was fascinated to learn that Detroit’s own Jack White @officialjackwhite helped save the building from foreclosure in 2013 by paying the back taxes. He has ties to the Masonic as his mother was once an usher there. (In recognition of his generosity, one of the theaters is named in his honor.)

The architecture is breathtaking and the acoustics are phenomenal. This November marks 100 years of operation, and this Detroit landmark continues to bring people together through music. It’s just reminder of the rich history, beauty, and soul Detroit has to offer. ❤️🎶

@interpol is performing here on Friday and I just may make the drive back to Detroit see them (again) in this glorious venue.

A collection of photos from the @gregoryalanisakov concert last night in Detroit won’t mean anything to anyone else but me. This is how I get to remember the night. I’m so glad I went. ❤️ Music has a way of moving me very deeply, and Gregory Alan Isakov’s performance last night was absolutely stellar. I was enamored, almost painfully moved, and so full of feeling that I could have cried.

There are a couple of old words that come close to describing this feeling:

Ekstasis (Ancient Greek: ἔκστασις) — literally “standing outside oneself”; being so overwhelmed by beauty, emotion, music, or awe that you feel transported beyond your ordinary state.

Frisson (French, from “shiver”) — a sudden, overwhelming emotional response to music or beauty that can cause chills, goosebumps, a lump in your throat, or tears. It’s that moment when music affects you so intensely that your body reacts.

Duende (Spanish) — a profound, visceral emotional force in art, particularly music and performance, capable of producing an almost haunting sense of beauty and emotional intensity.
