Books to get to know me 📚🐛

I recently reread The Hunger Games and really want to start doing more nostalgic rereads. I loved reading as a child but I think reading THG when I was 11 continued that interest into secondary school, which is a time where reading really drops off for a lot of people. It really got me into YA books and definitely still holds up now, possibly unlike some of the other books I read as a teenager 🙈 What's the book that got you into reading? by @snowdrop.books

overthinking final boss and the nominee for worst husband in literature

I loved this book! My first Du Maurier - her writing is amazing and this story was so gripping. I think it's so clever who the MC is never named. Daphne Du Maurier invented haunting the narrative fr !! 👻 by @snowdrop.books

Yesteryear review ✨🐄

Spoilers ahead 👇

A really great read! I thought Natalie as an unreliable and highly unlikeable character was done really well. She was mean spirited and corrupt, but it didn’t feel over the top to me and I found her point of view an interesting space to occupy. I thought the way she talked about the ‘Angry Women’ being bloodthirsty ‘little idiots’, desperate to eat her - and her obsession with Reena throughout the book - might come to something more in the conclusion. I would’ve liked her crash out to be a bit bigger.

There were a lot of fun twists and turns in this book. I saw some reviews saying the chapters set ‘in the past’ were boring, but I enjoyed them and they were all pretty short. A lot of them ended with Natalie discovering something or a little clue, but all of it left me guessing which was fun. I thought I had the story all figured out really early on but I was so wrong. I didn’t really expect it to go in the direction it did, but I liked the ending and felt it told a deeper story about mothers and daughters than the book’s marketing leads you to believe. Going in, I thought it was just going to be this wacky time travel story but it was a lot more grounded in reality and political critique. The ending actually left me feeling quite sad, witnessing the extreme mental collapse of a woman swept up in the pressure of trying to live a perfect life. It was a complicated sad though, because she absolutely deserved to be abandoned by her family, but yeah just a sadder resolution than I was expecting.

Really interesting commentary on audiences, performance, religious shame, and the feeling of being watched. by @snowdrop.books
