Snowsports are increasingly out of reach for more and more people 😞

I started skiing back in the early 90s when $10 lift tickets were a thing, and when used equipment was just about the same as my birthday and christmas cash combined... my parents couldn't afford to support my newfound love of skiing, so it was mostly on me. As a teenager, I could realistically save my money to go ski and upgrade my equipment as needed - but sadly, this is just not the situation for most folks anymore 💔

So what can be done? How can we collctively help?

I started skiing when I was 12 - saved all my birthday and Christmas money and bought my first pair of skis at a small second-hand store, in Sudbury Northern Ontario. ❄️

I put all my gear on and eagerly took the t-bar (only lift) to the top of our small hill.... and after a couple of runs, I could snowplow the whole way down (all 240ft of vertical)!!! Shoutout to Adanac ski hill 🎿

Needless to day, I fell in love immediately and have been passionate about skiing ever since ❤️

However, no matter how much fun I had, there was always someone or something making me feel like I was not part of the club...

I tried my best to fit the mold, but could never really become part of the 'cool dudes' ski club. I befriended the 'radical' snowboarders and prided myself on not being a 'typical' skiier. 💅

This approach worked for a while, but eventually snowboarding would transition into the mainstream and having fun seemed to matter less and less, with doing backies and dripping cliffs being the new standard (just like skiing - ewww). Also, a lot of my buddies were getting older, married, having kids, and settling down, so I found myself riding alone 🙃

At this point, I started to look for new community online and through ladies ski camps - I figured there had to be more ppl like me out there.... And there was ✨️

I am so grateful for @wwhitelips taking me in as the first anglophone to participate 🙏 It was one of the first places I saw and met other womxn as passionate about snowsports as I am.

Shortly after that, I bought my first touring set up - @coalitionsnow la nieves. I loved them sooooo much that I absolutely needed to learn/more about the company that made them... and well, the rest is history 😊

I've been an ambassador with Coalition Snow since 2018, and I am beyond grateful for the growing community of like minded womxn and underrepresented genders they continue to support 🫶 So thankful and full of gratitude for this team and community.
