Welcome home Moonie 🤍

When we decided to foster, the goal was to bring in the ‘undesirables’. The ones that would take time to find a home due to age, behavior, etc. Lifeline rescue approved our application and sent us a batch of photos of dogs in Texas that are in a high kill shelter- meaning, if they aren’t taken out of the shelter soon, they will likely be put down to make room for more incoming dogs.

We were at a comedy show when the photo of Moonie (previously ‘Maggie’) came through. Not quite undesirable 🙃 My heart instantly sank. A video of her at the vet showed a dog that ached for love. Her eyes looked scared. I wanted her here with me immediately - to show her a safe and warm home. I wanted to make her chicken and rice. Take her on trails! Get a pup cup ;)

I did a sort of ‘nesting’ before she came. Made a space for her. Got her her first toy. Had a pep talk with Jupiter, promising him that this would be temporary.

My mom went with me to pick up Moonie. She had just been spayed and had made the trip up from Texas - she was scared and zonked! But oh my gosh did she LOVE! We gave her a bath and so many kisses. I was nervous - not knowing what behaviors she’d reveal as she became comfortable.

I honestly tried to disassociate with her. Sticking to the plan to adopt her out. I reached out to some people I thought would be a good fit.

I started to fall for her and I pushed it out, not wanting to hurt Jupiter or take on the full responsibility of training another pup. The gravity of two dogs felt like a lot. My sweet @donovonlevan helped me through more crying than I’ve done in a while!

After manyyyyy conversations. After messy walks with two dogs. After introducing her to friends and family. After having a potential adopter meet her. After potty training. After Jupiter slowly warming up to her. After the two of them learning to play, and play hard! After sooo many snuggles…. We decided to adopt Moonie!

Moonie is downright lovely.. And while this means I will not be able to foster more pups, it means I can give Moonie a life FULL of comfort and love.. because she deserves this. Moonie deserves everything. And I want to give her just that 🤍 by @snowfeee

2024 pt 2!!

So what did a year of playing I Spy with utensils teach me? There’s a bigger story behind it, but ironically, it taught me to ‘look up, not down. Look forward, not back.’

Thank you to those who were apart of this.. it was a fun one!

I’m enjoying this new perspective =) by @snowfeee
