POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Temporary post

Haven’t been here lately and possibly not gonna be at all in the future, because of my ‘precious eyes’. Apparently I have a degenerative, possibly hereditary, condition that makes me lose acuity in both eyes due to the progressive death of the light-sensitive cells. There is no treatment for it, though I will undergo extensive genetical research in case there is some ongoing study I’d be willing to be a part of. Would I? would I wanna be a lab rat? Not really…

In theory it doesn’t lead to complete blindness, and I hope they’re right about it. Honestly, as long as I can still catch glimpses of this beautiful world, am not going to complain. If not, what good are these eyes for..

a young Moorish couple enters the sea. he’s wearing black swimming trunks, and she’s black-clad from head to toe: leggings, revealing a few inches of her ankles, a mid-thigh tunica over a long-sleeved blouse, and a veil covering her head

they swim, equally proficient at their skill, then come out the waves together. the black clothing is now welded to her body, dripping incessantly while contouring her appealing shapes. he turns around and notices. without wasting a gaze to the grand auditorium of the beach, he tells her to go back in

- you will only come out when the night falls, he spells calmly, and she obeys without a word

there she is, hour after hour, wrapped in the black wings of cloth floating around her gentle body

when the night falls, the moon shining over her face turns it into a brilliant diamond. then her attire dissolves, leaving her body exposed, caressed by the gelatine of the nocturnal waves. the husband notices again

- now you can no longer leave the sea, he states, and she obeys without a word

in the morning she is no longer there. the husband runs along the beach desperate, screaming her name, then enters the waves and immerses himself into the depth of the sea. in the end he comes out and cries alone on the beach. he waits for her all day long, not feeling the hunger or the thirst

- i will no longer leave the beach, he screams, i’ll wait for you here

but nobody answers. when the night falls again, there she is, coming out the waves naked and iridescent. he starts sobbing like a baby, falls down on his knees and kisses her feet, washing them with his warm tears

she tumbles through sand and gets covered in tiny speckles of infinite shells

- this is what I’m gonna wear from now on, she says softly, and he obeys without a word

(DISCLOSURE: only the beginning of this story is true, up until the point when they came out the water. she really was that alluring with all her wet clothing stuck to her body, but he avoided looking and acted as if all was alright. the rest is just my imagination..)

My recharge place was pretty charged tonight. When I got there, four of six benches were full. I sat down the opposite side, exhausted after the hike. Voices, conversations, tones. I waited for a while

One of the many voices was disturbing: a woman with a high-pitch tone and annoying laughter. She was talking to her friends and watching over the children

As if following the indications of an invisible director, people on the first two benches got up and left the scene. Only the weird woman with her friends and kids and husband stayed behind. The kids started to play with a car toy that buzzed and twinkled blue lights

A young woman out the Barbie film crossed the plaza, pink from head to toe, pushing a huge pink roller suitcase and holding the hand of a tiny blonde girl. The girl dawdled, mesmerized by the toy. Mom allowed a bit of staring, then hurried her up again

Two yuppies intersected while jogging. Sweaty but proud of themselves, they shook hands and exchanged a few banalities, tacitly congratulating each other for their superior lifestyle. Then each went on to his vacuous itinerary, and tomorrow back to the office for another round of managing and creating zeroes

Finally, the enlarged family stood up, gathered all strays and toys, and left. Plaza all for myself – a prize for waiting

The sky became visibly bluer, a sort of dark cyan mixed with turquoise. I stared in complicity at the huge evening star; I felt love towards it. Then I started to realize it moved too fast for a star. To be more accurate, the earth couldn’t rotate that rapidly so the star descend in such a rhythm below the barbed-wire fence. It was however way too slow to be a mundane aircraft – it moved imperceptibly; you had to wait two minutes to notice a difference. Maybe it wasn’t a huge star at a huge distance after all, but a mysterious spaceship looking at me. Therefore I made wishes and asked for things

And the point is I already received a lot: I think this star-spaceship has been around for a while now. Maybe this plaza is within its spectrum of superpowers. Maybe I don’t dare to tell you all the truth yet

saw this short theatrical representation at the beginning of the week - interpreted by young homeless immigrants mainly from maghreb and south american countries, and out of a sudden i lost it

all i could hope for was that everybody in the audience stared at the actors, because the thought of being seen with tears running down my face was terrifying. for a second i felt like running out the room, but that would’ve meant calling attention to myself

why do we feel so bad about revealing something that’s ultimately good: pain, compassion, understanding, affection? why are emotional breakouts so shameful? what is there to gain from restraint and control?

Saw this recently and loved it so much that I dreamt about it all night

Robberies in films fill us with a sense of justice because you won’t see robberies filthy rich and powerful do. Those are not even robberies, but rather extorsion, corruption. In a film you’ll most likely watch robberies that ‘small’ rebellious artistical citizens commit. I say artistical because it takes talent and imagination and above all, it takes being different to do it

Another correction: these are maybe not citizens, since they disobey the laws of the city/civilization from which the word ‘citizen’ evolved. But laws change and civilization changes, and we definitely need to rob from the rich and wicked to even out the incongruous balance of fortune. Can’t wait for the laws and ‘civilization’ to make justice, and this is another major appeal of these films: individuals who take the matter in their own hands and make justice for themselves. Often directly or indirectly for others too

Shared a clip from ‘Inside man’ that I saw some years ago and thoroughly enjoyed. Song Chaiya Chaiya comes from that film’s soundtrack in fact. Many of these robberies count as political statements of underground movements or isolated crazy heroes, despite the defiled image they are given in media. Wasn’t Robin Hood one of them? Oh, I’m naïve…

Leaving political assumption aside, Emily is one of my favourite female characters, and the dry, raw, overly natural and downplayed acting style Aubrey Plaza flaunts has me charmed to the bone. There’s also a big lesson about standing up for yourself here, and not by being tacky or cruel, that I see in many females these days, but by being quiet and firm, fragile yet strong, loving and relentless and intelligent. And I think you also need a drop of luck. Don’t know the true nature of luck and maybe it is better to not know it, but I think luck is like the fine grain of sand that blurs the eyesight of the evil one, or the bead of dew that erases a revealing exhibit just enough to make it illegible…

Away for a short while, and then a quick trip to my recharge place

Every time I get there, different characters take over the scene. As with other magical spots I see at night, I much doubt they exist in reality, but only in my head

This time my side of the place was taken by a Hindu family of mom and three children. I went and sat on the other side. Moments later, the littlest girl found her way to my seat circling the wall from behind, in bogus accidental manner which I deemed funny

‘Hi’, I said, ‘what’s your name?’

She raised her eyes in disbelief, not expecting such an easy task

‘I’m Arim’, she immediately replied

‘I’m Sabina’

We became instant friends and she expressed ardent interest in my green fan, my caramel donut and even the content of my bag

The white oleander in the garden next to us called her attention, yet she wasn’t sure if she was allowed there

‘It smells amazing’, I observed, ‘why don’t you pick one flower?’ the flower-thief in me encouraged her

No need to insist – minutes later she was up in the bush reaping more than I would’ve dared. Then the uncertainty of purpose dawned on her

‘You could wear one in your hair’, I suggested
‘Yeah! Could you help me do it?’

I weaved the stem of the flower under a strand of her black shiny hair. She gently checked, then wanted another flower, and another and another, until the top of her head was crowned in fragrant blossom

‘My mom’s name is Amza’, Arim stated loudly in between acts
‘Why don’t you get some flowers for your momma?’

She screamed with joy, gathered a bunch then ran to the opposite side. I stealthily waved to her momma, who waved back in sly signal

Arim returned with her older sister, a bit shyer but more tender-hearted. She also wanted flowers in her hair

‘Can you guess my sister’s name?’ Arim shouted.
But before I had a chance to try my hand at it, she responded:
‘Her name’s Dua!’
‘Oh, like the famous singer’
‘Yes!’

Minutes later, Dua’s head was also snowed with odorous crown flakes.

something’s wrong with my left eye and i remember that once someone asked me if i were to lose eyesight or hearing, which one i’d choose. i’d rather keep eyesight, i answered, and the other person was disappointed because they thought listening to music is uttermost. i love music but i can play it in my head at any time, besides i’d get rid of the noise and screaming and phonic pollution around. what i most love is to look at things, i hope i can do that for ever
