Prattโ€™s School of Art Dean Jorge Oliver is pleased to invite all School of Art students to submit their work for consideration to be included in a group exhibition curated by Pratt alum Rachel Vera Steinberg (BFA Fine Arts, Drawing โ€˜08) and artist and writer Avram Finkelstein. The exhibition will take place in August and September 2026 in Steuben Gallery, in partnership with Prattโ€™s Department of Exhibitions and in collaboration with the Department of Fine Arts, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Alumni Relations, the Learning Access Center, and Pratt Presents. The 2026 School of Art annual student show invites reflection on disability, access, and the diverse ways people relate to their minds and bodies. Submissions are open to all Pratt School of Art students, including undergraduates, graduate students, and the Class of 2026. The exhibition will feature work engaging with themes of access, disability, and neurodiversity, including visible and invisible disabilities, mental health, chronic illness, sensory, cognitive, emotional, and mobility experiences, and conditions shaped by environment and context. You are not required to label or disclose any diagnosis or identity to submit to this exhibition. We hope you will consider applying and look forward to creating a platform for expansive dialogue between various experiences and perspectives within the Pratt community. The exhibition is an excellent opportunity for you to showcase your work and build a relationship with professional curators and artists in the context of a group exhibition. Join Pratt's School of Art and School of Design for the opening of the exhibition "The Work of Holding" by faculty Jessica Caldwell and Sam Vernon. This exhibition is a product of the annual faculty residency at the KinoSaito Arts Center. Opening Reception: Tuesday, February 24th, 5-7 PM Gallery Talk: Thursday, March 5th, 5 PM The School of Art and the School of Design are pleased to present The Work of Holding, a two-person exhibition of new work by Jessica Caldwell, Visiting Assistant Professor in Interior Design, and Sam Vernon, Assistant Professor in Fine Arts. Guided by the principle of Sankofaโ€”reaching back to move forwardโ€”the exhibition treats historical material as living evidence carrying Black knowledge, memory, and survival. At the core of the exhibition, page and thread function as parallel systems of knowledge, holding time as layered and nonlinear. Caldwell and Vernon participated in the Pratt/KinoSaito Artist-in-Residence Fellowship Program last summer. The works on view were produced during their simultaneous four-week residencies at KinoSaito in Verplanck, New York. Displaying archival images from Hampton and Tuskegee Universities, along with a loom, embroidery, video, and garments, Caldwell reconstructs the architecture of Black textile education and holds space for remembrance and ancestral transmission. Vernon will be presenting three new large-scale works on paper with an accompanying reader. Presented at the Rubelle and Norman Schafler Gallery, this exhibition brought together 16 students and recent alumni whose work explores the queer aesthetic and the LGBTQIA+ experience. The exhibit was curated by @prattinstitute alums Olli Toppeta (History of Art and Design โ€˜22) and Dylan Kaleikaumaka Hill (History of Art and Design โ€˜23), with guidance from faculty supervisor @cassilsartist, Associate Professor of Sculpture and Integrated Practices in Fine Arts. Through painting, sculpture, film, photography, and performance, the artists engaged in dialogue around visibility, intimacy, transformation, and the power of community. The Dean of the School of Art @jorgeaoliver is pleased to share that artist and advocate Viva Ruiz @chocolatinaruiz will present a workshop, EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING, next Tuesday Sept. 23 from 10 a.m.-noon, engaging students on the topic of reproductive justice and bodily autonomy through a queer lens. Ruizโ€™s collaborative practice expands across performance, film, writing, and music. This workshop will be a participatory exercise in drawing lines to each other and exploring how bodily autonomy is a place we can all meet, celebrating agency and the ways that art can generate joyous action. EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING will begin as a talk show performance with @losmithstudios Hushpuppy (MFA Fine Arts, Printmaking โ€˜26), followed by a performance facilitation by Ruiz culminating in an open invitation to participate in a group dance performance on the Quad.ย  Register through link in bio! The Dean of the School of Art @jorgeaoliver is thrilled to share that the incredible @dorianwoodmusic singer, composer and performance artist, will present a vocalization workshop, ๐’ฎ๐‘œ๐“ƒ๐‘”, tomorrow, Sept. 3 on Prattโ€™s Brooklyn Campus. This participatory performance will take place on the occasion of the 2025 School of Art exhibition Exquisite Relations, currently on view at Schafler Gallery through September 27, and was conceived by the faculty advisor to this yearโ€™s show @cassilsartist Please see workshop details below and we hope to see you tomorrow for what promises to be a joyful community chorus to kick start this fall semester! Register through link in bio! ๐’ฎ๐‘œ๐“ƒ๐‘” is a participatory vocal performance that explores presence as the root of vocalization. Singer Dorian Wood invites all types of voices, regardless of singing skill, to engage in a series of guided exercises and prompts, culminating in a roaming sonic infiltration on the campus of Pratt. Wood poses the following: as we each navigate ways to stay connected to our communities in times of oppression and uncertainty, feelings of discouragement may arise and thus impact the importance of โ€œshowing upโ€. But when we do, how do we each make ourselves known? What can our respective voices do when we are intentional in body and heart? Can a whisper, a sigh or a delicate hum reverberate as a thunderclap? Date: September 3, 2025 Location: Meet at the Rose Garden, behind the library at 2 p.m. Participants will make a path together through the Quad area, stopping at the Main Building Courtyard and finally at the Student Union. Last Monday, April 14th was Horses on Campus Day, an annual Pratt tradition. Our students took advantage of the opportunity and enjoyed some time outside getting inspired and drawing the horses Cisco and Tibbles.
