From a few years back when I tracked @sobdrum Scott Sobol's drums for a song written by @michaelbutlermurray called "Get off the Phone." The song rocks, Scott's drums were huge (as were Mike's Marshall amp sounds) and @simefox Simon Fox played a killer bass line. If there are smarter words ever spoken than, “Be the change you want to see in the world,” I’ve never heard them. If you want to live in a world without hate, as I do, it begins – like everything – with The Self.Another brilliant but also frightening quote is, “You cannot recognize a quality in another that you do not posess within yourself.” I am struggling these days to not hate, after a long and very focused effort to expunge hate from my thoughts, it has returned as possibly the most daunting challenge I’ve ever faced. If I hate those who I judge to be evil, selfish, childish, stupid or hateful, as far as the Universe receives and responds to my energy is concerned, I become one of them. “To hate is to become that which is hated.” I lose, and everything I want and believe in loses. I pray for the strength to practice fully what I preach, and to remember that I am just as flawed in my way as those I judge harshly are in theirs. I want to live in a peaceful world, which I make impossible when I hold hatred in my heart, and instead only contribute to the storm of hatred in our world. I am trying to remember something I heard said after 9/11: “If you grew up where they grew up, and were taught what they were taught, you’d believe what they believe.” I want to be strong and centered enough to remember this in the moment, before a hateful or judgmental thought arises, and not need to remind myself.❤️☮️🇺🇸🙏🌎#love #forgiveness #empathy #tolerance #compassion #maturity #positivity #integrity #accountability #gratitude #thoughtisenergy #positivethoughts #mindset #proactiva #lawofattraction #lawofassumption #selfactualize #motivation #determination #contribution #healty #energy ##community #success #win #peace by @sobdrum

If you are against any kind of animal cruelty, please support @featherphaseout While bird feathers are beautiful, it's no different than all the other ways we take from and abuse other living things. I’m stunned to hear the news that earlier this month Sammy Ash passed away. Cancer has taken another beautiful soul from us.I worked for Sam Ash Music on 48th Street in 1979 for two years. It was an incredible experience to be at the center of the world of musical instrument retail at that time. The number of my musical heroes and legendary musicians I got to not only meet but to serve was beyond any musician’s dream. One of the high points of being an employee of Sam Ash was that once a week, Sammy and Richie Ash, the two grandsons of SA spent the day in the store. We had a lot of laughs and some great times both during and after business hours and my memories of that time are treasured ones. Sammy was a caring, helpful, intelligent and very centered individual who I liked and respected immensely, and that feeling was widely shared among every musician whenever Sammy’s name came up in conversation. Getting to reconnect with him decades later at NAMM every year, as well as on social media, was an absolute joy. The world was definitely a better place with Sammy in it, and it hurts to know I’ll get no more time with him. The phrase “a tragic loss” fits well for this great human being.Rest In Peace, Sam…❤️🎼@sammyashguitar @samashmusic by @sobdrum

Thanks @quackietheduck💣.There have been periods of my life where I was the busiest person I knew; rehearing and gigging with three or four bands, subbing for other drummers, often while holding down a 40 to 70 hour a week job. Sleep was a luxury I got as much of as time allowed and eating was usually done on the run. I still had to hear, “I’ve been really busy” from people in my life who couldn’t keep their word or be counted on, and who really had no idea what my life looked like. It drove me crazy but I mostly kept quiet about it. My version of their immaturity was saying “I don’t have the time,” or “I don’t have the money” whenever I was asked to do something, or was offered an opportunity. Through an amazing life lesson moment, I realized that those statements were no less BS than people who were no where near as busy as me saying they’d been “too busy.” The Truth I’ve known ever since is that I CHOOSE to make the time or spend the money for those things and people that mean enough to me to do it, and to throw out little boy excuses for not showing up with clarity and integrity - like, “I’ve been really busy” - is an insult to myself and to who I’m talking to. .#integrity #honesty #accountability #maturity #courage #commitment #adult by @sobdrum
