👋🏻🙋🏼‍♀️Hello! A little cute video for a re-introduction!

✨I’m Erin, I live in Madison WI

✨I’m 17 months sober and now enjoy living an alcohol-free lifestyle 🙌🏼🥰👏🏼

🌺Hawaii is my favorite place and I used to live on the Big Island! I love to travel sober now! No hangovers is the BEST!

😻I am a cat lady, for sure. I have two “kits” Olive Bear & Jon Sno. They are spoiled and the best.

🍎🍓I’m a horticulturist and manage a hydroponic strawberry operation & apple orchard. Pests & diseases make my job super challenging. Being sober allows me to better handle my responsibilities.

💍I’m engaged to Devin and my wedding is in less than 3 months! He’s an architect and we’ve already been together for 11 years. We’ve known each other for 16! I’m grateful that I will be sober at my wedding—I will remember and cherish every moment. 🙏🏼

I just want to be your sober cheerleader & friend!

✨🤍Thank you for following my journey! I’d love to know something about YOU! 💬💬

Hi, I’m Erin! 👋🏻

Let me start with saying that I live in Madison, Wisconsin and if you know anything about the culture here you would probably say, “beer & cheese?” It’s a deep rooted social drinking culture and giving up alcohol is a far cry from normal.

So what did I do? I gave it up. And I’ve been on my alcohol-free journey since 1/22/24! I wanted to start this page because I need a place to be authentic and to share my experiences because it’s been incredibly eye-opening riddled with ups and downs.

Has it been easy? Absolutely not. But it’s also been so damn beautiful. The mindset around drinking is slowly changing and there are so many alternatives to alcohol that have really, like really really, helped me. And I want to share them!

Life on the other side is much more intentional, grounded, and clear. Guess what? It’s also more fun! You can literally still do everything you did before, if you want, but in a more connected and meaningful way!

Alcohol did not enhance my life. It detracted from it. And frankly it was dangerous, unhealthy, and could make me into a version of myself that I never want to meet again.

So I’m here to bring some curiosity to the sober space, share what’s been helping me, be your cheerleader and friend, and show that life can be fun and fulfilling without alcohol!

I think if I was being honest with myself I wanted to say No to alcohol long before I quit.

There were so many red flags. By the end I genuinely didn’t enjoy drinking and the side effects ranged from poor sleep, to horrendous hangovers, crippling anxiety, and making decisions that I didn’t remember that were blowing up my life. 😣

I felt like I needed to drink at every social event. I felt like every outing had to include alcohol. I felt like if I didn’t drink I wouldn’t fit in. I felt like drinking would make me relaxed, less anxious, and easier to connect with people.

Literally none of that was true. Alcohol was stealing my joy, my peace, my sense of self. It never helped me connect to anyone or anything. I don’t believe those lies anymore and now I understand this social pressure to drink for what it is. A mask.

Drinking alcohol and alcoholism are so ingrained in our culture that a sober person can feel jarring. Like how dare we so plainly pause to question this toxicity?

I felt like I couldn’t say no because it was too weird and too uncomfortable. Now, I don’t care about that bit. If my not drinking makes someone else uncomfortable I would ask why? And I would bet most people aren’t ready to answer that question.

I wanted to remind you that you always have the choice to say no.

I need to learn to apply this to other areas of my life too! Can you relate?!

Happy Autumn Equinox! 🌗

I am in the THICK of my busiest season and I knew I needed to carve some time for myself. To just pause. To slow down. To re-recenter. My soul needed that reset and reminder that we are sitting in the balance between light and dark.

Sobriety has made everything in my life easier but that doesn’t mean life is easy (by any means!). Most days I need to use all the tools in my box!

One of the greatest gifts I’ve given myself is permission to seek community and opportunities to engage with like-minded people! @happy.sober.free Equinox Cacao Flow was just that! 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Sometimes breathing, moving, dancing, and singing with strangers (and friends!) is just what you need to remember the light as the dark grows stronger by the day.

Take care of yourself! Is there anything you’re planning to do for yourself in these coming months to stay positive? by @soberself.wi

Being sober allows me to actually cherish this beautiful life we’ve built! 💕

I met my husband in 2009, we started dating in 2014, and today is our ✨ONE YEAR✨ wedding anniversary!

Nothing about our relationship has been traditional and for the longest time marriage wasn’t something that I felt I wanted or deserved.

I knew I needed to heal long before I took the giant leap into sobriety. But I did it. And we grew together.

I was sober at my wedding and I’m so grateful for it. It was important to me and to us. A promise and respect.

Now, I have the memories. All of them. And I didn’t ruin my own special day. I didn’t embarrass myself in front of all the people I love. I woke up the next day with nothing but love and gratitude.

A sober life is a beautiful one. ❤️ by @soberself.wi

Finding joy in my ✨sober era✨

It’s been 960 days since I said goodbye to alcohol. While it’s been the best decision of my life it doesn’t by any means mean it’s been easy.

The first year is rough. Learning how to do everything sober and redefining what life looks life and how we interact with the world is SO hard. Sobriety is front and present at all times. It was also very lonely.

Year two was the year that my soul sought out community for the first time. That was a game changer! I started to seek out opportunities to connect with people who understood.

The last few months I feel like I’ve been really present with myself. I’ve been finding so much joy. I feel free. I truly have no desire to go back.

As hard as it’s been I’m so grateful for this journey.

Where are you at on your journey? And how are you feeling? The rollercoaster of emotions is normal! You are not alone.

If your intention was to be sober today and you ARE sober then you are doing it right. That’s it.

If you’re anything like me there are moments when you find yourself comparing your sober journey to everyone else’s. When you do that you miss the honey🍯. Letting those judgements go is where the sweet spot is. 🐝

How long have you been sober for? Is there anything on your journey that you’re still comparing or passing judgment on that you wish you could let go of? 💬 by @soberself.wi
