കഥാസംഗ്രഹം (Summary):

ആനന്ദിന്റെ ആൾക്കൂട്ടം ബോംബെ നഗരത്തിലേക്ക് പല വഴികളിലൂടെ എത്തിച്ചേരുന്ന കുറെ മനുഷ്യരുടെ ജീവിതങ്ങളിലൂടെയുള്ള യാത്രയാണ്. ജോസഫ്, സുനിൽ, പ്രേം, സുന്ദർ, രാധ, ലളിത തുടങ്ങിയവരുടെ ജീവിതവും ചിന്തകളും ബന്ധങ്ങളും ചേർന്നാണ് നോവലിന്റെ ലോകം രൂപപ്പെടുന്നത്.

കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ ഉത്തരവാദിത്തവും സ്വന്തം സ്വപ്നങ്ങളുമായി ചെറുപ്പത്തിൽ ബോംബെയിലെത്തുന്ന ജോസഫിൽ നിന്നാണ് കഥയുടെ യാത്ര തുടങ്ങുന്നത്. നഗരത്തിന്റെ തിരക്കിനിടയിൽ ജോലി, ബന്ധങ്ങൾ, രാഷ്ട്രീയം, ആശയങ്ങൾ, പ്രണയം, അതിജീവനം എന്നിവയ്ക്കിടയിൽ ഈ മനുഷ്യർ ഓരോരുത്തരും തങ്ങളുടെ ഇടം കണ്ടെത്താൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നു.

എന്തുകൊണ്ട് വായിക്കണം? (Why to Read It):

* ഒരു നഗരത്തെ പശ്ചാത്തലമാക്കി മനുഷ്യന്റെ ഏകാന്തതയും സ്വത്വാന്വേഷണവും ഇത്ര ആഴത്തിൽ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന കൃതിയാണ്.
* 1960-കളിലെ ബോംബെയിലൂടെ കടന്നുപോകുമ്പോഴും, നഗരജീവിതത്തിലെ പല അനുഭവങ്ങളും ഇന്നും പരിചിതമായി തോന്നും.
* വ്യക്തിയും സമൂഹവും തമ്മിലുള്ള ബന്ധം, അധികാരം, സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം, രാഷ്ട്രീയം, ബന്ധങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങിയ വിഷയങ്ങളെ നേരിട്ട് ചിന്തിക്കാൻ പ്രേരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
* കഥയേക്കാൾ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടെ ചിന്തകളും അവരുടെ ഉള്ളിലെ സംഘർഷങ്ങളുമാണ് വായനക്കാരനെ മുന്നോട്ട് കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നത്.

കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ (Characters):

ജോസഫ് – കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ ഉത്തരവാദിത്തവുമായി ബോംബെയിലെത്തുന്ന യുവാവ്. സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിന്റെയും മാറ്റത്തിന്റെയും സ്വപ്നങ്ങളുമായി ജീവിക്കുന്ന പ്രധാന കഥാപാത്രം.

സുനിൽ – മനുഷ്യനെയും സമൂഹത്തെയും കുറിച്ച് ആഴത്തിൽ ചിന്തിക്കുന്ന, മാനവികതയ്ക്ക് പ്രാധാന്യം നൽകുന്ന കഥാപാത്രം.

പ്രേം – വ്യക്തമായ ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങളോ ആശയങ്ങളോ കണ്ടെത്താനാകാതെ ജീവിതത്തിലൂടെ ഒഴുകിപ്പോകുന്ന മനുഷ്യന്റെ പ്രതിനിധി.

സുന്ദർ – സ്വന്തം ജീവിതത്തിൽ മുന്നേറുക എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തിന് കൂടുതൽ പ്രാധാന്യം നൽകുന്ന കഥാപാത്രം.

രാധ – നഗരജീവിതത്തിലെ കഠിന യാഥാർഥ്യങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ സ്വന്തം നിലനിൽപ്പിനായി പോരാടുന്ന സ്ത്രീ.

ലളിത – സ്വന്തം ജീവിതസാഹചര്യങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം ഒഴുകിപ്പോകുന്ന, നഗരത്തിലെ അനേകം സാധാരണ മനുഷ്യരുടെ ജീവിതത്തെ പ്രതിനിധീകരിക്കുന്ന കഥാപാത്രം.

ഒരു എഴുത്തുകാരൻ അയാൾ എഴുതുന്ന പുസ്തകങ്ങളിൽ മാത്രം ഒതുങ്ങുന്ന ഒരാളല്ലെന്ന് തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ ഒരു Reads.

നജീബ് എന്ന മനുഷ്യൻ, അയാൾ കേട്ട കഥകളും, കടന്നുപോയ ഇടങ്ങളും, മനസ്സിലാക്കിയ മനുഷ്യരും കൂടിയാണ് and that is perhaps what makes him different.

He doesn’t seem to fit neatly into any one defined role.
Writer, traveller, observer, listener, friend, social worker, perhaps all of these, and yet none of them completely.

നീർമാതളം പൂത്ത കാലം മാധവിക്കുട്ടിയുടെ ബാല്യകാല ഓർമ്മകളിലൂടെയും കുടുംബജീവിതത്തിലൂടെയും കടന്നുപോകുന്ന ഒരു ആത്മകഥാപരമായ കൃതിയാണ്. പുന്നയൂർക്കുളത്തെ തറവാടും അവിടുത്തെ മനുഷ്യരും, വീടിന്റെ അകത്തളങ്ങളും മുറ്റവും, ബന്ധങ്ങളും പിണക്കങ്ങളും സ്നേഹവും നഷ്ടങ്ങളും, എല്ലാം എഴുത്തുകാരിയുടെ ഓർമ്മകളിൽ നിന്ന് വീണ്ടും ജീവൻ നേടുന്നു.

Some writers write about life, some writers make us pause and look at the lives happening around us.

This Sunday, SOC Reads gathers with writer Najeeb Moodadi @najeebmoodadi, whose writing often finds its way into the most human parts of everyday life, loneliness, relationships, migration, love, memories, women’s experiences, and the small acts of care that often go unnoticed.

From his early writings on expatriate life to works such as സങ്കടമണമുള്ള ബിരിയാണി , മുസാഫിറുകളുടെ ആകാശങ്ങൾ, ഉടലിനുമപ്പുറം അവൾ and his recent ഒറ്റക്കാക്കരുത്, there is a recurring tenderness towards people who are often overlooked, someone carrying an unspoken pain, a woman searching for her space, a migrant carrying memories across borders, or simply someone longing to be seen and understood.
