Giving Flowers to a True Legend: The Mighty Sparrow 🇹🇹❤️

Today, I want to give my flowers to a man whose voice, music, and legacy will forever live in my heart. The Mighty Sparrow, the undisputed King of Calypso, was more than just a singer. He was a storyteller, a cultural ambassador, and a voice that helped generations of Caribbean people understand who we are and where we come from.

Growing up, his music played a significant role in shaping my appreciation for my Caribbean heritage. His songs were more than melodies; they were lessons in our history, our struggles, our humor, our pride, and our identity. Through his music, I learned to embrace the richness of my culture and the beauty of being Caribbean.

Having a father who was also a singer, calypso writer, and musician made that connection even more personal. Sparrow’s music became a part of my everyday life, a familiar voice that carried me through different seasons and moments. His songs were woven into the soundtrack of my upbringing, and the memories they created will stay with me forever.

At 91, the King has taken his final bow, but his crown remains untouched. His music will continue to echo through generations, reminding us of our roots, our resilience, and the extraordinary power of Caribbean artistry.

Rest peacefully, Mighty Sparrow. Thank you for the music, the memories, the lessons, and the cultural foundation you helped build in so many of us. You didn’t just sing calypso; you gave a people a voice and a generation a connection to its heritage.

Today, I celebrate you, honor you, and give you your flowers while you can no longer hear us say it.

Long live the King of Calypso. Your voice may be silent, but your legacy will sing forever. 🇹🇹🌹🎶

CELEBRATING 5 YEARS OF HISTORY, CULTURE & IMPACT
This Friday, Caribbean Culture Awareness (CCA) proudly hosts our 5th Annual National Caribbean American Heritage Month Flag Raising Ceremony in New Castle County, Delaware.

Five years ago, CCA helped bring awareness to the importance of recognizing National Caribbean American Heritage Month throughout Delaware. What began as a vision to celebrate the contributions of Caribbean Americans has grown into a movement that has received official recognition at the local, state, and national levels, including proclamations and acknowledgments signed into law.

Join us as we honor the rich history, culture, achievements, and lasting contributions of Caribbean Americans while hearing from an outstanding lineup of community leaders, professionals, and changemakers who continue to make a difference every day.

This event is more than a flag raising, it is a celebration of our journey, our resilience, and our impact on Delaware and beyond.

📅 Friday, June 5, 2026
⏰ 12:00 PM
📍 New Castle County Government Center
87 Reads Way, New Castle, DE

This event is FREE and open to the public.

Come celebrate with us, connect with the community, and be part of this historic milestone as we proudly raise the Caribbean flag for the 5th consecutive year.
