At the top 2025 @uniondelbarrio issued the call to form the @communityselfdefensecoalition. Dozens of organizations answered, building infrastructure so that when state terror escalated, our communities would be ready to coordinate, organize, and fight back against forced expulsions and state kidnappings.

@blackallianceforpeace SoCal joined because we recognize immigration terror as part of the same war we've been naming—the comprehensive assault on Black and Brown life through militarization, displacement, and incarceration.

Now, as USNORTHCOM confirms 2,000 federalized troops ready for deployment with 700 Marines on standby under "Operation At Large," our communities stand ready too. From Boyle Heights to Compton, organized people are confronting an occupying force.

NOlympics LA is curating a calendar of community events that collectively counterprogram the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Counterprogramming offers alternatives to dominant narratives and structures, encouraging urgent critiques of the status quo and insisting that another world is possible.

An event’s inclusion on this list does not mean the event organizers endorse the People’s World Cup Program or NOlympics LA. Instead, we at NOlympics are highlighting events that we understand as challenging the commercialized, imperialist mega-event machine. 🔗 in bio by @socalbap

The World Cup is here at sofi today. It must be stated, the games are part of war the U.S. wages on Black and working-class people in Inglewood and South LA, through displacement, policing, and economic siege—and on the world through bombs, blockades, and borders.

11,000 Black residents displaced. 12 schools closed since 2018. A $6.3M surveillance contract signed behind closed doors, while Haitian fans banned from the tournament Haiti qualified for, and disciplined for their jerseys.

So we boycott. Don't buy tickets, merch, fan zones, or from FIFA's sponsors — Coca-Cola, Visa, Adidas, Budweiser, McDonald's.

The U.S. government designated the FIFA World Cup as an event that requires extensive federal security oversight. That means local police and sheriffs will coordinate closely with the FBI, Immigration and
Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Secret Service, and the U.S. Military. At past events with this designation, federal security forces have conducted raids and racially profiled immigrants. They have harassed and arrested or fined people who work in the informal economy, from street vendors to sex workers.

From Los Angeles to Tehran, the US government is waging a global war on working people. As of May 12, the US has spent $29 billion of US taxpayer money on the senseless and unprovoked war on Iran. That money has been used to murder innocent civilians, including over 175 elementary school girls in Minab. by @socalbap

1968 was a year of tumultuous social upheaval, powerful peoples’ movements from the Black Power Movement, Women’s and LGBTQ civil rights struggles to the anti-colonial struggles from Viet Nam to the continent of Africa to the streets of France.

The film Rojo Amanecer is set in Mexico City. The film opens before the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, a working-class family’s apartment becomes a terrifying safe house when a small student protest transforms into the deadly Tlatelolco Massacre, trapping them in the violent crossfire of state military forces.

On 21 June, Iran’s national football team secured a goalless draw against a heavily favoured Belgian side in their second match of the 2026 World Cup. Were it not for a highly controversial offside call, they would have won outright with the only goal of the game.

Team Melli’s achievement was all the more remarkable for having endured a brutal war on their nation by the very country hosting all three of their group stage matches. Twice in a row, they and their fans have also had to brave a gauntlet of violent, racist, and ultra-Z*onist Iranian diaspora monarchists outside Los Angeles’ SoFi stadium.

In the lead-up to the Belgium game, local anti-war organisers were determined not to let the monarchists’ reign of terror go unchallenged. On the morning of 21 June, activists from LA’s progressive Iranian diaspora, NOlympics LA, and Black Alliance for Peace mobilised to the stadium entrance to deliver a resounding message: Ordinary Angelenos stand with Team Melli and the people of Iran, Palestine, and Lebanon against FIFA’s sportswashing of US-Israeli imperialism and g*nocide.
