๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿ‘‡ ๐Ÿฅพ If you're unsure about if your kids can do this hike or have any technical questions - send me a DM! ๐Ÿ“Annie's Canyon Trail Solana Beach Some reviews state that it's a trail best suited for older kids. We saw lots of younger kids on the trail. ๐Ÿ‘ถ This trail is doable with a baby in front carrier (we did it). The slot canyon is a little tight, of course ๐Ÿง’ Our 2 year old completed the hike outside of the backpack carrier, but we brought and carried it just in case. I think you could wear a toddler in a backpack carrier - depending on the pack/child/adults sizes (with the slot canyon being tight) โš ๏ธ You will be walking through some sand โš ๏ธ While the slot canyon is a small portion of the hike, it's noteworthy that if you're claustrophobic, you may want to take the other route - you'll see a sign to direct you. Can't miss it. โš ๏ธ Watch for wildlife - it is ๐Ÿ season. We didn't see any ๐Ÿ“ Many reviews note that this trail gets busy and congested. We visited on a Thursday around 10:00AM we saw people hiking in passing only (not crowded at all). ๐Ÿš˜ Free Street Parking available at the end of Solana Hill Drive. There is a sign at the trailhead notes that for an easier route, park at Rios Ave. @sandiegomamas recently noted that too. She also said that if your kids can do a playground ladder, they can do this one. That is absolutely accurate. This may be my favorite hike with kids in Southern California! If you have other trail recommendations, I'd love to see them in the comments! ๐Ÿƒ After the hike, head over to Viewpoint Brewery for lunch. The kids' menu was delicious and large portions. We easily split two kids' meals for three kids and they were hungry! ๐Ÿ” Our server recommended the burger and it received major accolades including "the best burger I've ever eaten" โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ There is plenty of seating outdoors on the patio with beautiful views and a trail nearby if you just can't stop hiking or want to birdwatch. Want a treat but not interested in a brewery? Consider a stop at @sumptuouscookies 1/2 mile away from the trail If you have any questions, drop them in the comments or send me a DM. Have fun! by @socalparentguide
Hiking Info to Know โฌ‡๏ธ ๐Ÿ”น1.6 mile loop ๐Ÿ”ธ 374 ft elevation gain (feels steeper!) ๐Ÿ“ Pumpkin Rock Norco, CA ๐Ÿ…ฟ๏ธ Free parking nearby in Pike's Peak Playground ๐Ÿ“Œ Save this for later too! ๐Ÿ’ก The rock usually has fresh paint now, but it's painted year-round. โ˜€๏ธ Go early - it gets hot on the trail. There's very limited shade in the morning (and even less midday) ๐Ÿฅพ Wear closed toe footwear with good traction! ๐Ÿœ Lots of bugs on the trail ๐Ÿด ๐Ÿšด๐Ÿป ๐ŸWatch for horses and mountain bikers and snakes ๐Ÿ’ง Pack plenty of water โš ๏ธ Hiking experience (Adults and Kids) strongly recommend for this one. It's short, but steep. If you have a runner/eloper, hold hands - there are drop offs. โฐ Takes about 30 minutes to reach the rock. Descending pace was about the same. ๐Ÿ› Pike's Place Playground is a great stop after the hike! Lots of fun elements to this one. ๐Ÿšฝ Restrooms available at the playground parking lot ๐Ÿ“ For reference, we have hiked this one with two kids in hiking backpacks and two kids on foot in the past. Hiking experience required, as it's steep. ๐Ÿ‘€ Sharing the adjacent park, an alternate photo spot and a fun hiking snack we brought in @socalparentguide stories later by @socalparentguide
