WHY SPARROW WAS TRULY KING TO ME

Growing up in the late 70s into the 80s, all you heard was Sparrow, Sparrow was Trinbago Bob Marley in terms of popularity... On any given day, your household or your neighbor household could be having/ playing a Sparrow marathon... I knew how loved Sparrow was at an early age just by how much people in my neighbor would blast Sparrow music from their homes.

Sparrow was the calypsonian calypsonian, a man's man, the ladies' man... He had charisma, personality, flair, whatever Sparrow said you believed , his ad-libs, grunts or whatever sound he decides to make with his mouth in songs would sound just as good or even better live and for me that was the mark of a real performer, an artiste who has mastered his caft

The Birdie showmanship is what made him special and made him stand 10 feet above the rest... I always would say if a Soca artiste can't dance and perform his own song, he/she is wasting time being a Soca artiste, and The Mighty Sparrow was the King of performing his songs, he had that little (sorry plenty) bacchanal in him

Soca & Calypso have lost its Bob Marley for me, the real GIANT of the artform... May he fly high with all the greats that have left this earth.

The Mighty Sparrow Thank you for your impecable service to the culture and artform 🙏🏿✨️👑 RIP .

Rest In Peace to a Dancehall and Jamaican Legend
Lieutenant Stitchie 💐

I haven't gotten time to write my feelings on the Calypso and Soca Legend Slinger Francisco aka The Mighty Sparrow yet and we've got another Caribbean musical Legend we have to create another RIP card for 😢

Stitchie inspired me as a youth to want to write music , make up kool lyrics and be a performer... I loved his style of story telling (along with Slick Rick) and was Stitchie that made me become a fan of Dancehall music in the late 80s

'Dress To Impress' and 'Wear Yuh Size' from Stitchie were two songs i couldn't stop play , i even went as far as to direct and choreograph a lipsync performance for 'Dress To Impress' that i performed with 2 of my buddies in 1993 at the Upper Level club and few other venues. (see pic at the end of video, i in yellow)

Cleveland Laing aka Lieutenant Stitchie you was the Dancehall artiste that inspired me in my early years to want to be a chanter and a performer..

Condolences going out to his family friends fans and the entire Dancehall community 🕊 by @socawatch_
