Varna, Bulgaria. Monument to Bulgarian-Soviet Friendship. 48 meters wide, 23 meters tall, finished in 1978. It was built by around 27,000 volunteers, and it points out over the Black Sea, toward the Soviet Union. Four Soviet soldiers on one wing, three Bulgarian women on the other, welcoming them. Below it, 301 steps up the hill. After 1989 it was left to rot. The eternal flame went out and the bronze letters of the inscription disappeared. Skopje from above. The 1963 earthquake flattened most of the city, and what came after was one of the wildest rebuilds in Yugoslavia. Kenzo Tange drew the master plan, local architects filled it in. First shot is the post office counter hall by Janko Konstantinov, finished in 1981. Eight concrete wedges, and from the drone it looks like a star. Behind it is his telecom tower. Then the train station, where the tracks run on top of the building. The red thing at the end I have no idea about. Found it in a park.
