Most new customers don’t just “happen” to find you. They can discover restaurants through these 6 specific paths. Here’s exactly how each one works and why it matters:

1.  Mapping Apps
Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Yelp are where a huge percentage of diners start when they’re deciding where to eat. They search by cuisine, distance, ratings, and photos.

2.  Location Tags
Every time you or a customer tags your restaurant’s location on a post, Reel, or Story, that content gets added to your location page. People browsing the location often check recent tags before choosing where to go.

3.  Customer-Generated Content
When guests post photos, Reels, or Stories and tag you, their followers see it. This is one of the highest-trust forms of marketing because it comes from real people, not the restaurant. Encourage it, repost it (with credit), and make it easy for customers to tag you correctly.

4.  Keywords
People search Instagram and Google for phrases like “best brunch near me,” or “family restaurant [your city],” The words in your bio and captions help you show up in those searches.

5.  Your Bio
Your bio is the first thing someone sees when they land on your profile from any of the above sources. It needs to instantly answer: what kind of restaurant you are, where you are, what makes you different, and what they should do next (menu link, reservations, order online).

6.  Collaborative Content
Posting with other local businesses, complementary brands, or creators puts your restaurant in front of their audience. This can easily introduce you to people who were never going to find you on their own. taken in Westlake Village, California by @social.bennett

Most restaurant content doesn’t fail because of the food.

It fails because it doesn’t build trust, connection, or a reason to choose your place. I share practical content strategies to help local restaurants turn attention into reservations.

Jail….right away.

Here’s why.

1️⃣ So you’re open for breakfast and lunch daily. That doesn’t make you stand out or make people interested in learning more about your restaurant, let alone come in.

2️⃣ Want to immediately tell the world you have no idea what you’re doing? Put a website url in your bio with hashtags. No info about what is served, where the restaurant is located, or anything unique about it.

3️⃣ This bio is way too short and lacks important info that potential customers coming to your Instagram need. While the year established and hours of operation are good to have, they belong more on a website and not an Instagram bio.

4️⃣ The bio says “Voted #1” in a specific location but fails to say #1 in what. It’s extremely vague. #1 what? When were they voted #1? It creates more questions than answers.

5️⃣ This bio has a similar issue to the previous one. It says when they were awarded best sandwiches but doesn’t mention where. It also has the weekly hours which should not be in an Instagram bio. Instagram bios are for building curiosity, not for basic operating info.

6️⃣ This bio is actually decent, it just has too many lines. Your bio should be no more than 3-4 lines. It’s short and sweet, has an interesting fact, and what they serve. There’s no need to have the hours and or phone number in an Instagram bio.

7️⃣ A bio shouldn’t read like a sentence, especially when it’s just operating hours. It lacks key info that create curiosity.

8️⃣ Correct number of lines, but filled with the days and hours they’re open again.

Your bio is often people’s first introduction to your restaurant. DM me “bio” and I’ll help you make it great! by @social.bennett

A lot of people only see the moment.
Not the pain it took to get there.

The discomfort is real.
The exhaustion is real.
The internal battle is real.

But so is the joy.
So is the connection.
So are the memories with the people I love.

I push through the struggle so I don’t miss what matters.

That’s what it takes to build true freedom.

The hard days are, and always will be worth the payoff.

Save this to remind yourself that you chose your path for reason. by @social.bennett

Your food looking amazing is **NOT** why people choose your restaurant!

That might sound harsh, but here’s the truth:

Beautiful plating is expected now.

Good lighting is expected.

Clean edits are expected.

So if your Instagram is only posting pretty food, you’re blending in with every other restaurant doing the same thing.

What actually makes people book, visit, and come back is everything AROUND the plate:

- the energy of the room
- the atmosphere people walk into
- the story behind the owners and team
- the experience guests talk about after they leave
- the reputation you’ve built locally
- the dishes people crave enough to return for
- the feeling your brand gives people
- the authenticity people can sense immediately

People don’t just choose restaurants because the food looks good.

They choose restaurants because they want to be part of an experience.

Your Instagram should not just make people think:

“That looks nice.”

It should make them think:

“I need to try that place this week!”

That’s the difference between content that gets views and content that drives actual customers.

Your content gets them curious, your bio is what makes them interested. Without these 5 elements, you’re just another restaurant.

Here’s why.

1. Type of cuisine: Potential customers need to know what you serve right away! They won’t waste time guessing whether you’re Italian, bbq, tacos, or fine dining.

2. City/town: If the location isn’t clear, locals and nearby diners can’t tell whether you’re even an option for them. People won’t save, follow, or visit a restaurant they assume is in another city or country.

3. Unique/personal: A generic bio makes you blend into the endless feed of similar restaurants. Without a standout detail, there’s no reason someone will remember you or choose you over your competition.

4. Credibility: People hesitate to try an unknown place, so they skip you for accounts that show awards, years in business, or social proof.

5. Call to action: Without a direct next step, interested people don’t know what to do. Momentum is lost and they move on to a different place.

I’m doing it tired.
I’m doing it angry.
I’m doing it distracted.
I’m doing it sick.

I’m doing it because I know that the only person that can turn my dreams into reality…is me. Being a solo entrepreneur isn’t easy, but anything that’s actually worth it isn’t easy.
