Your Prop Shop is only as good as the information it gets from rehearsal. Join our panel of Prop Managers and Stage Managers on Sunday, October 18th at 8pm for an honest roundtable on how to keep that communication clear, accurate, and flowing in both directions. We’ll talk about why it matters, how to get the details you actually need, and how to build a strong working relationship with your SM.

All SPMinars begin at 8 PM Eastern (7 PM Central, 6 PM Mountain, 5 PM Pacific, 4 PM Alaska, 3 PM Hawaii).

We invite pay-what-you-can donations to help support SPMinar programming. Contributions offset webinar costs, with additional funds supporting our annual grant for early-career prop professionals.

Registration closes at 5 PM Eastern on the day of the event. The Zoom link will be emailed to registered attendees one hour before the webinar begins.

What's in a name? Props manager. Props Designer. Artisan. Carpenter. Stitcher. Craftsperson. Buyer. Run crew. The prop world is full of titles, and they don't always mean the same thing from shop to shop.

Join us Sunday, September 20th at 8pm Eastern with a panel of SPM Props Managers to de-mystify who's who and who does what. We'll dig into how titles and responsibilities shift across producing models (educational, regional, freelance, presenting houses) and touch on the differences between union and non-union prop shops.

Whether you're new to the field or just curious how your title stacks up elsewhere, come join the conversation.

This month we're talking about a topic so many of us struggle with: Imposter Syndrome.

Do you ever doubt yourself in the workplace? Almost all artists, no matter the medium, struggle with feelings of inadequacy when it comes to making art. Our panelists will discuss Imposter Syndrome as it relates to our work as prop creators. They will talk through ways to address your inner critic and move forward in your work with determination and curiosity.

Join us Sunday, August 16th at 8pm Eastern to join the conversation.

On Sunday, June 21st, we'll have our first-ever SPMinar prop shop tour as we we head to the Utah Shakespeare Festival Prop Shop with Prop Director, Ben Hohman as our guide.

Register here: https://tinyurl.com/SPMinar55reg

Ben, along with Assistant Prop Director, Marielle Boneau, will take us through the shop spaces where they build and manage props for a huge summer season of 8 productions and other festival events. We’ll get a look at the different areas of the shop, including carpentry, crafts, soft goods, graphics, and prop storage, and hear about how a two-person department expands each spring and summer to handle the chaos. So, if you’ve ever wanted to snoop around somebody else’s shop, this is your chance.

The suggested donation is $5.

Once you have a prop list, the real work begins.

In this follow-up to our March webinar, The Prop List, Explained, we’ll look at what comes next: organizing the work, tracking changes, communicating with the production team, managing priorities, and turning that list into actual props onstage.

If you missed attending “The Prop List, Explained”, you can find it on our YouTube Channel.
