Back in April, Sofa Records and Bongo Joe teamed up to release the beautiful compilation dedicated to Yassine Nana.

Those eight tracks recorded between 1984 and 1989, during a key moment in Mauritania’s musical history. Recorded in Mauritania as well as during stays in Paris and Rabat, these songs integrate drum machines, synthesizers and electric guitars into Saharan musical structures. Influenced by reggae, soul and new wave, the group develops a sound that reflects the circulation of music and technology in the 1980s, while remaining firmly rooted in Mauritanian languages, themes and melodic systems.

Due to delay in the records delivery, we never had time to post the WALL, but now it's fixed.

Ce dimanche 04 octobre on pose nos bacs pour la 5eme édition du marché des disquaires indés organisé par @commonground_io — accueilli cette année chez Marti. Au top: lieu cool, orga au max, confrères nombreux...

On rapporte 3 mètres linéaires de bonnes affaires et d'une sélection soignée, conforme à ce qu'on trouve habituellement dans le shop. On sortira pas mal de disques spécialement pour l'occasion — et notamment une belle collec de rap français.

Venez tôt et venez nombreux !

Astonishing video excerpts from the outstanding 2008 documentary film Soul Power. It recounts Zaïre 74, a 3-day music festival held in Kinshasa, supposed to be the prelude to Muhammad Ali & George Foreman’s legendary « Rumble in the Jungle » fight — but the latter sustained an injury a few days before the battle, delaying it for several weeks.

Produced by Jeffrey Levy-Hinte with archival footage, it includes mind-blowing images of the musicians on stage as well as behind-the-scenes planning, such as the stage set-up, plane journeys, airport arrival & street jams, informal conversations and the like. Editing purposely links intimately these moments, underlying that music is an ever-present practice, a way of life. It also firmly displays the anti-racist and pan-Africanist discourses of most of the artists, as much as the views about Black Power and their role in it.

Performers include Franco, Tabu Ley Rochereau, Bill Withers, Miriam Makeba, The Spinners, Fania All Stars, James Brown, B.B. King, Manu Dibango, Abeti, Sister Sledge and many others. Damn, if I could go back in time and choose to live again one single event in the fresco of human history, it would be that one.

History recounts that, at that time, light was put almost exclusively on Afro-American & Latino artists from the American continent, even though Franco, Tabu Ley or Miriam Makeba were already giants there. A compilation was published in 2017, focused on the African performances of that event. The documentary also contributes to restoring that balance, in a certain way.

Quel honneur de faire partie des rares magasins en France – et dans le monde ! – à proposer une préécoute exclusive du nouvel album de Mike D, légende des Beastie Boys.

Ce jeudi 27 août dès 17h30, l’album intitulé « Thank You » tournera inlassablement sur la platine du shop jusqu’à la fermeture de la boutique. Cerise sur le gateau, nous aurons des vinyles à vendre (alors qu’il ne sera disponible officiellement que le lendemain) et des goodies à fournir !

A signaler aussi qu’il sera présent au Transborder le 4 novembre 2026.

Here’s a rare archive of Henri Guédon performing with his band on French TV, most likely from the late 1970s. At the time, he was performing with his band at La Chapelle des Lombards—a famous jazz and Latin music club in Paris. Salsa music was still relatively unknown in France, though already popular in the US and the Caribbean.

In this sense, Henri Guédon played a key role in introducing salsa music to France, both through his recordings with La Contesta and his live performances.

Just in: Habibi Funk's sister label Audible Beauty first two references just arrived at the shop.

Heavyweight compilations around two Malaysian jazz music legends: Alfonso Soliano & Johary Salleh. The tracks compiled here, spanning from bop to soul-jazz through jazz-funk, were released on vinyl via micro pressings for Malaysian radio station.

An entire jazz world to dive in, available at the shop and online.
