#MeetTheArtist time !! By some unreplicateable stroke of luck I've jumped 1k followers this past month so - hi to everyone who doesn't know the face behind this account yet! thank you for joining (or staying) 💖

I'm Hash aka Sofftpunk and for ~7yrs I've been creating a huge range of queer art and goodies - I like sticking my fingers in many different product design jars because I love functional art!

I moved to Lisbon almost 4 years ago - it's wild to think I've technically been working here longer than anywhere else at this point, because I feel like I'm only just starting to get settled here! After my move, I suffered a ✨series of unfortunate events✨ that I'm still recovering from, but I'm finally getting involved in some of the markets here! and it's been going so well - everyone I meet is so nice ;u; and it makes all the difference to see your encouraging reactions to my work in person

For the past year, I've also been running a monthly art club at Lisbon's LGBT+ centre @ilgaportugal ! this has combined my love & experience of teaching with my passion for art and political education, and has been a continual highlight every single month - helping you get creating and finding out how fun and free making art can be feels so special and aligned with my purpose here on earth 🌎 im very blessed to be able to do this all on a donations basis, never having to turn anyone away for lack of funds, due to the generosity of those who donate during my classes to make art accessible to everyone!

I started out favouring digital art as a way to financially stabilise my business, but I've been reconnecting with traditional art more and more - partly influenced by my burning hatred for all things gen ai. political climate has also been pushing me further into political zine making, and I'm excited to start sharing all of this with you more!

Lisbon Collage & Zine Club is back from our summer break 🎉 swipe for the next 3 months of dates and themes 👀 hope you're all as excited for these ones as I am! registration is now open through my website - navigate to the Lisbon Collage & Zine Club page for the sign up form 😇 looking forward to getting back to creating with you!

as always the sessions will be led by myself; queertrans artist of colour, Hash, and hosted at the wonderful community space @casulo.cafe.cultura 🦋 join us for in relaxed social space where you can venture into the mediums of zines and collage, or deepen your existing practice (while making crafty friends)!

Here's everything you need to know:

👀 registration is REQUIRED; spaces are limited!
🎟️ all sessions are Pay What You Can; there is a suggested minimum donation, but if you are unable to donate you are still invited to join us! Check out the form for more info on attending on a budget.
🫂 those who can are asked to please help us keep this space running by donating within their means towards the provided supplies & labour
☕ Casulo has kindly donated the venue, but to keep this venue open we ask that attendees purchase one food or drink item (starting at just €1)

Sept 13, 27 - Lyrics/Music
Muse on a favourite band or share some lyrics that have stayed with you

Oct 11, 25 - Haunted House
In this session we'll learn a unique zine fold known as the Turkish Map fold, and use it to create our own haunted house zines

November 15, 29 - Paper Weaving
We'll learn a unique collage technique which results in a woven fabric of paper, often used to create surrealist effects

when i first tried lino printing on fabric literally years ago, it went SO badly that i avoided it like the plague until verrry recently..turns out I had no clue I was doing it entirely incorrectly, no wonder the super frustrating, patchy results.

here are the THREE tips that fixed my patchy lino prints:

1) apply multiple thin layer
back when i made my first attempts, i made the rookie mistake of fabric lino printing with the exact same technique i used for lino printing on paper - its pretty obvious looking back that it doesn’t really work like that! fabric is such a different medium to paper, that to create a similarly opaque and consistent lino print, you need to apply multiple thin layers of ink on your block instead of a single layer!

2) dry between your layers
letting your ink layers dry once applied ON the block itself BEFORE printing makes a massive difference! once the layer of ink dries and gets just a little tackier, it moves less when you apply your next layer of ink, allowing it to build up better with each consecutive layer

3) rest your block before lifting from fabric
once you’ve applied your inked lino block to your fabric and pressed it in carefully and consistently, let your block just sit on the fabric for a minute or two before your lift it off and reveal your print - the same logic as before is applying; the ink dries a little in the time it lays on the fabric, and the slight tackiness means the ink clings better to the fabric fibres, leaving a more opaque print once you remove the block!

so before you give up on fabric lino printing - try these tips and let me know if you have better results!

one of the things I love about horror is how it reflects social fears, and werewolf horror has always come across as a symbol of the social fear of transness to me. I wanted to spin that horror on its head with this design - what if, even though you see us as monsters, we still choose this form?

I think I'd have a lot of fun as a werewolf anyway

October Mail Club reward reveal 🐺♥️ this month's theme is WEREWOLF! thought this would be a bit of an alternate take on Halloween, which felt super fitting since this last year I've basically watched almost every werewolf movie in existence. we're even doing a werewolf movie night at my place this week :") so I hope you can sense the excitement in how much work went into this month's rewards!

a successful first month of mail club 💜 huge thank you everyone for sharing, commenting, liking and generally helping me get the word out! I'm super excited to be back to what is possibly my fav part of my work, designing rewards for a dedicated mail club <3

naturally I'm also so so grateful to finally be rebuilding this massive piece of my stability as an artist, losing my mail club felt like more or less losing everything I'd worked to build in my first few years as a small business, but I have faith that I'm returning to it with so much more knowledge, skill and experience to make this mail club eeeeven better than the last!
