I am incredibly happy to be part of the NYC nonprofit club, and so proud of us, two South American women who have founded beautiful initiatives. My friend Carolina from Ecuador is combating food insecurity by delivering protein bars to children!

The event was a wonderful opportunity for networking and discovering new platforms for nonprofits.

Years ago, I started the Reddit support group r/thoracicherniateddisc after my own experience. I had no idea this would be the start of an incredible journey.

Within that same group, a nonprofit was born; we created the only resource in the world for thoracic spine-related conditions! and we have helped hundreds of people so far.

That night was the first time I felt noticed by people outside of our support group. I was invited to an in-person Reddit mod meeting in NYC. It was fun, and I had the chance to represent our community. While it was probably the smallest next to major, famous communities, it was arguably the most meaningful. The McCarren Park dog runs are volunteer maintained, not city maintained. Now, we need to save them. The city plans to take this land for other uses, promising a replacement that would be smaller, treeless, and have artificial grass. NYC is home to more dogs than children we need more dog runs, not less. Please join us in protecting this vital community space! by @sofia_munizaga_ried

Meet Sofia & Patata.

Patata is a 6 YO Shih Tzu, Pug, + Jack Russell mix with the biggest 👀 eyes I’ve ever seen on a dog.🐾

How did Sofia end up working with Neurosurgeons and Neurologists? She started suffering severe pain and neurological deficits that countless doctors dismissed as anxiety. She had to diagnose herself! When she got an MRI as proof, she was told surgery was impossible and she’d have to live disabled.

Once again, Sofia decided they were wrong. She found the right surgery and the right Neurosurgeon, and she lives a normal life again!

Sofia is helping others through her nonprofit, Thoracic Spine Health Foundation. Unresolved back pain? Or “Weird symptoms”. She’s usually in the neighborhood, so if you have any questions, just ask!
