I want to touch on two subjects. First, the overwhelming amount of times I get asked by clients, friends and followers as to whether or not they should buy the latest (or last season’s) trendy “it” piece. I wanted to create a diagram that can be used to track the popularity of a trend, so consumers can make an informed decision of when to buy. Second, this diagram is nothing new. Back in business school I studied Rogers’ Innovation Adoption Curve. I wanted to take this model and apply it to fashion trends with a nod to marketing & influencer culture. So should you buy last season’s extremely trendy item? My answer is probably not.
