In the remote village of Fass, in Southeastern Senegal, women gather daily to tend to their garden. One by one, they start showing up to their lush plots, spread over two hectares, carrying a rainbow of buckets. Papaya, banana, moringa and mango trees abound, the latter of which provides a shady escape from the mid-day heat, especially during the hottest months of the year.

Each woman takes care of her own plot, where she grows everything from peppers to okra, lettuce, onions, cabbage and eggplants, depending on the season. With help from Le Korsa, they now have a bore-well with a solar powered pump; they have expanded their garden; and they receive ongoing training on how to grow their own food from seed to harvest. Whatever food they do not consume, they will sell locally and some of that income will be reinvested in the garden.
