The idea - the process - the result✍🏻 Do you ever have an idea for a sketchbook page and then it turns out different than what you have imagined ?☁️ This is one of those pages but I still like it though :)

Sketchbook analysis part 2!⭐️ Many of you have requested me to do another one of these sketchbook analysis since I did the last one. But this time I’m using my second @moleskine art sketchbook📒 Let me know if you think I should continue on doing these?☁️

If you’re struggling to make your drawings look realistic, you might be focusing on the details too soon. Let me explain it to you⬇️

One of the biggest things I’ve learned from drawing realistically over the years is that values come before details⭐️ Before worrying about individual hairs, skin texture, tiny highlights or all those little details that make a drawing look “finished,” you need to make sure your light and dark areas are working together✍🏻

Think of it this way:
Values 👉 the foundation
Details 👉 the finishing touches

You can have the most detailed drawing but if your values are too similar, it can still look flat. When I’m working on a drawing, I try to step back from the details and ask myself: Where is my darkest dark? Where is my lightest light? Are my shadows dark enough? Do the different areas have enough contrast?

So before you spend hours adding tiny details make sure your values are doing the work.
Get the values right first. Then add the details🙌

Drawing in the car on my getaway🚗

If I could change something I would have done the eyelashes with coloredpencils or fineliner instead of a acrylic marker. Let me know if you want to see more like this?💗

No paint. No digital. Just pencils. ✍🏻

Each one took hours of layering and patience.
Which one is your favorite? 🌟
