How smart is this mama duck to have her babies in the safety of the garden of the Petit Palais! And how chic, of course! 🙂

We met mama duck and her babies last Friday after visiting the Hilma af Klint exhibition.

Skipping school is sometimes important!😉

Creativity crosses the Atlantic! 📸
We’ve officially launched the first-ever Paris x NYC #Photo Exchange. This semester, photography students in Paris are being paired with their peers at Parsons New York to engage in a #creative visual dialogue across borders. Sad Snake – Captive in the Old Ménagerie – Urban Animal – Paris 2017

The architecture of the Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes is undoubtedly beautiful and reminiscent of an era long gone and as such, entirely inadequate for keeping wild animals in the 21st century. The animals are treated as decorative objects, kept in extremely small enclosures for mere human amusement. Does the snake appreciate the beautifully painted forest on the wall?

I created this series in 2017 and nothing has changed since. The vertical panoramic formats are reminiscent of decorative wallpaper or poetic scrolls which enhances the absurdity of the scene.

Take action and sign the petition for the closing of the menagerie des Jardin des Plantes.
Since 2019 association @associationpaz is fighting to have this place of animal suffering closed and the animals placed in appropriate sanctuaries. Please help them by signing the petition – link in bio

L’architecture de la Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes est sans aucun doute raffinée, elle rappelle une époque révolue et à ce titre totalement inadaptée à la préservation d’animaux sauvages au 21e siècle. Les animaux sont traités comme des objets décoratifs, gardés dans des enclos extrêmement petits pour le simple amusement humain. Le serpent apprécie-t-il la forêt magnifiquement peinte sur le mur ?

J’ai réalisé cette série en 2017 et rien n’a changé depuis. Les formats panoramiques verticaux rappellent des papiers peints décoratifs ou des volutes poétiques renforcent l’absurdité de la scène.

Agissez et signez la pétition pour la fermeture de la ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes. I don’t know if in this photo is Nanette or one of the other orangutans. They all share the same cruel reality imposed by man. « June 16, 1972, is the date Nénette arrived at the Menagerie. Captured in the wild in Borneo at the age of three, Nénette has been confined to the Menagerie for 53 years, without ever touching a tree!
Paint, a plastic lollipop, a blue barrel, ropes… the Menagerie tries to use various means to keep her occupied. The reality is that nothing can replace her freedom and her natural habitat. »

« Le 16 juin 1972 est la date de l’arrivée de Nénette à la Ménagerie. Arrachée à Bornéo à l’âge de 3 ans, Nénette est enfermée à la Ménagerie depuis 53 ans, et ce sans toucher un arbre !
Peinture, sucette en plastique, bidon bleu, cordes… la Ménagerie tente de mettre en place des artefacts pour l’occuper. La réalité est que rien ne pourra remplacer la liberté et son habitat. »

Captive in the Old Ménagerie no.5 – Urban Animal – Paris, 2017

It was in 2017 when I first visited the Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes. I was utterly shocked to see the conditions of how animals are kept in this zoo in the heart of Paris. The zoo dates from 1794 and hasn’t changed much since. The enclosures are extremely small and many animals, like the primates, have no access to the exterior.
Since 2019 association @associationpaz is fighting to have this place of animal suffering closed and the animals placed in appropriate sanctuaries. Please help them by signing the petition – link in bio

C’est en 2017 que j’ai visité pour la première fois la Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes. J’ai été profondément choquée par les conditions de vie des animaux dans ce zoo situé en plein cœur de Paris. Le zoo date de 1794 et n’a guère changé depuis. Les enclos sont extrêmement petits et de nombreux animaux, comme les primates, n’ont aucun accès à l’extérieur.

Time flies, life takes over and we fall behind with social media posts and so I never had the opportunity to thank everyone who participated in this special night at Atelier11, during the Transmissions exhibition.

Thank you to neighbours, students, artists, collaborators and everyone who came and shared their experiences and thoughts. It was intimate open and heartfelt. You were all active participants in what was created and shared that evening. Thank you for your presence, a presence in the through meaning of the word.
