POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I said yes to the love of my life.

Planned to write a long tearjerker post about it but realized that nah. The cutesy details are between us (dm me for them though, I love talking about this shit). And the pictures we took are too cute to vanish in the stories realm.

About to marry my best friend and my biggest supporter, I love you so much @nickradogna by @sofiya.kuz

Look at that, I’m alive

I heard that apparently being vulnerable and open is a good thing on social media these days?

Truth be told, I had statistically absurd regular encounters with cancer last half a year. I’ve lost someone close to me and my closest people are loosing their loved ones or battling it. We are kicking the shit out of the cells, nothing to be worried about.

I quit a job that I hated (if you know you know), because it ruined painting to me for a bit. I am an artist because stupidly painting brings me joy like nothing else. I’m regaining it. Did a ton of random little jobs to stay afloat and, most importantly, sane. SSRIs help too, I suppose.

Here are some photos that I should have posted earlier. From a gallery I helped to run to classes I’ve taught, shows I’ve been in, theatre set props I’ve built (IM ON HBO). I even became a website designer and sales manager. Even went to Russia. Also, I cleaned donkey diarrhea from somewhat historical pillars. Wow, even practiced Jai alai (hardest part).

I’m not sure where I am going with it. I’m back. Don’t underestimate importance of your mental health, take your vitamins, kiss your loved ones, call your parents if they’re cool. We don’t have that long on this planet. by @sofiya.kuz

🔥Big show alert!🔥

Together with @the_merry_monarch we are opening AXEL Gallery. The grand 3-artists opening is this Friday! I will show my work and very honored to share the space with two amazing artists that you definitely want to meet and talk to:

AXEL Gallery invites you to Stars Aligned, the debut opening at our new space in Red Hook. This exhibition features three distinct artists - Mark Stephen Meadows, Sofiya Kuzmina, and Stefano Losi - united by their exploration of figurative language and human connection across technology, empathy, and myth.

Sofiya Kuzmina’s deeply empathetic figurative paintings honor the beauty of “otherness,” drawing from her own experience of immigrant displacement to illuminate private moments of tenderness, resilience, and identity.

Mark Stephen Meadows approaches art making as a dialogue between human intention and machine intelligence, using AI as both muse and mirror to explore symbolic literacy, the limits of algorithmic vision, and the ritualistic labor of image-making.

Stefano Losi channels decades of sculptural and poetic research into works that distill existential restlessness through bronze, text, and mythic gesture.

“Throughout the history the art made by female artists have been underrepresented and excluded from the global art scene. Art exhibitions often lack female perspective on gender, social issues, and identity. The goal of this exhibition is to expand the access for female identifying artists to express themselves and their world perception.
Topic of Female Queer Perspective Exhibition: queer female identity, women’s rights movement, women of Eastern Europe, Caucusus, and Central Asian identity.
Our exhibition will be opened on March 8th as it is the opening date that has a very important meaning for feminist movement around the world, recognizing women’s achievements and the fight for equality.
Female Queer Perspectives Exhibition is aimed to build the bridge between the art of female identifying artists from past history of the human society and present times.” by @sofiya.kuz

🔥Last week for new class registration🔥
One of the very exciting new segments of my life last year was starting my classes at @newyorkacademyofart
If you want to join the list of slightly overwhelmed but very grateful students I have had so far, you can sign up for my upcoming in-person class starting on March 10th! We will meet for 6 Monday nights, 6:30-9:30pm, working from a live model and diving deep into the intricacies of color and light manipulations using oil paint.

The link to register and full description of what to expect is in my bio.
Also, don’t forget the promo code “springsale” to get a 20% discount for the class!
Hope to see you on campus!💃🏻 taken in New York Academy of Art by @sofiya.kuz

Enrollment is now open for my second 6-week class this Fall semester!

Each week, we will work from a live model, and I’ll share the most valuable painting tips I’ve gathered through years of practice and education. This class blends the indirect painting techniques of the old masters with an understanding of how to use high-chroma pigments to achieve the most lifelike results. We’ll explore how our eyes perceive colors and the best ways to mix them on the palette. Think RGB vs CMYK: while everyone knows mixing yellow and blue paint gives green, mixing blue and yellow light produces a completely different result, especially when applied to the complexities of the human figure.

In this class, I’ll help you make sense of it all and guide you toward creating beautiful paintings. Teaching and learning at @newyorkacademyofart is always a pleasure, and I’m excited to share my experience with all the upcoming students!

A little gift from me: use promo code FALL20 for a 20% discount on the class!

My in-person class is filling up, but there are still spots left - don’t miss out! 🌟
Join me on a 6-week journey exploring the art of indirect (multi-layered) oil painting techniques from a live model. We’ll master color manipulation with a limited palette and spend our evenings in the magical @newyorkacademyofart 🔥

Starting on September 16th, we’ll meet every Monday from 6:30-9:30 PM. I’ll be sharing the most valuable tips and tricks I’ve gathered throughout my years of education and practice. We will be working on a long pose, allowing us to develop our paintings over several sessions. There’s something incredibly special about building a complex piece layer by layer, especially when capturing the human form from life.

Returning to the Academy as a teacher is a true honor for me, and I’m excited to create a class filled with what made my time there so meaningful. Whether you’re new to oil painting or a seasoned artist, I’ll guide you through the process and ensure it’s both enriching and inspiring for everyone.

The link to enroll and more details are in my bio. All levels of painting experience are welcome! Feel free to share this with friends, family, your neighborhood cat. 🐱
See you soon on campus! ❤️

If you are in NY, you still have a couple of weeks to see “The Quotidian” group show, on view until the end of March! Here is some documentation of our improvised opening ceremony last week♥️ Now when spring is here and we get more sun, stop by the Western Union building window to see our art in full shine🥰

“The Quotidian” is an exhibit that juxtaposes the simplicity of the day-to-day against the complex nature of human existence. From a mundane pair of heels - worn day in, day out - to ephemeral emotions that challenge us all at some point, these artworks reveal the beauty and struggle of everyday life. This collection, created by seven local artists, invites the viewer to pause on their walk down West Broadway, and reflect on the richness of their own experiences.
