Helping leaders communicate from within with confidence, clarity & self-trust.
Executive communication • High-stakes communication • Boundaries
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I have watched this clip so many times over the past few years.
Dolly Parton didn’t tell Julia Roberts that it wasn’t hot. She didn’t deny the discomfort.
She simply chose to focus on something else.
And I think that’s the power of discernment.
It’s knowing that not everything deserves the same amount of your attention, energy, or emotional investment.
You can acknowledge that something is frustrating without letting it ruin your experience.
You can complain about the heat… and still remember how lucky you are to be there.
You can be annoyed… and decide not to make it a problem.
You can care… without giving everything your energy.
Discernment is knowing what deserves your attention and what doesn’t.
And sometimes, that choice changes everything.

I mean… this is not what we expected. Anyone who can relate?

I didn’t expect to see this pattern as clearly as I did.

The people who think deeply, challenge ideas, and push for better outcomes…aren’t always the ones who move up.

Not because they lack capability, but because they shift the room.
And not every leader is ready for that.

So instead, the ones who feel easier to manage often rise.
Less friction. Less discomfort. More alignment.

This isn’t about right or wrong. It’s about awareness.

👉 The environment you’re in will either expand you… or quietly shrink you.
So before you question your worth, your readiness, or your performance, ask yourself:

Is this a place that actually knows how to hold someone like me?

Have you experience this before?

“Everybody knows that.”
“Most people would agree with me.”
“Ask anyone. They’ll tell you the same thing.”

Sound familiar?

When someone uses what other people supposedly believe to make their opinion sound like a fact, it’s called an appeal to popularity.

Agreement can be informative. But it isn’t proof.

I went back to therapy a few weeks ago.
This time, I didn’t wait or debate with myself. I knew I deserved the help I needed to process something I hadn’t fully faced: I had never forgiven myself for choosing the wrong partner.
I decided to write a letter to that girl. The one who was angry with herself for the choice she made, and scared of breaking free from the life she had built.
I wrote it for her. But maybe you need to hear these words, too.
If you’re still holding your younger self responsible for a choice she made when she was scared, give her a little grace.
Forgive her. Give her the biggest hug.
She was doing the best she could with what she knew then.
She deserves your compassion, too.

What if the way you give says something about what you’re hoping to receive?

Sometimes, we give our time and energy hoping to feel appreciated, valued, or seen. The question isn’t whether we should expect nothing in return, but whether we’re being honest with ourselves about why we give.

A little reflection can change the way we show up for others, and for ourselves.

You see something someone else has.
And something in you longs for it.

But what if you could admire where they are,
let their light shine,
and not dim your own?

In this episode, @kaatefrederick talks about how parts of social media can be a highlight reel, and about keeping her blinders on sometimes.

To acknowledge the feeling when it comes up.
To admire them, and support them.
To stay in your own lane.

Sometimes soft power is letting someone else shine.
Without dimming your own light.

Thank you, Kate, for the reminder that their light doesn’t have to dim yours 💜💛

If comparison is showing up for you right now, this one is for you.

Who’s someone you admire right now? Tag them 🥰

We’ve become so used to information being packaged into quick conclusions that we forget to ask questions.

Is it true?
What’s the context?
Does it actually apply to me?

Just because something catches my attention doesn’t mean it deserves my immediate belief or action.

What do you think about the “hook” culture?

Active listening isn’t just about hearing what someone says.
It’s listening to the words they choose, what they redirect, what they avoid, and what they leave unanswered.

In this exchange on the ALL IN podcast, the question was about Meta’s history with addictive products and the harm to children. Her answer took the conversation somewhere else.

Listen to what is said. And listen for what isn’t.

The most powerful persuasion doesn’t always feel like persuasion.
Mr. Rogers knew how to make people feel respected, understand what truly mattered, and remember the message long after he was done speaking.

Never underestimate the power of feel, know, remember in your next high stakes presentation.
Save this for your next high-stakes presentation.

After divorce, learning to love your own company.

For Stephanie, living alone gave her something she didn’t know she needed: time to reconnect with herself.
After years of codependency, she now finds joy in the simplest things. Blasting music. Dancing around the house. Singing. Even pretending to clean.

Not because everything is perfect. But because she has learned to enjoy being with herself.

Sometimes coming home to yourself looks surprisingly ordinary.

And sometimes, it looks like dancing around your living room with the music turned all the way up.

💜Have you learned to enjoy your own company?

We talk about boundaries as if they’re a communication technique.

What words to use.
What tone to take.
How to make the other person understand.

But the real test comes after you’ve said the boundary.
What do you do when it’s crossed?

Sometimes the clearest boundary isn’t another explanation. It’s your action.

And that requires something deeper than communication skills: knowing where your line is, and trusting yourself enough to honor it 💪
