One of the emergencies that made me run this week was a call that went like this. “ We need you to come quickly to receive this baby, mom has APH, baby’s heart rate is 80beats per minute. She arrived 10 minutes ago and we are entering theatre now”

Let me tell you, such cases, everything else can wait! Everything!!

Because a heart rate dropping like that means the baby is planning on leaving this world for you and its mother in any second!

In theatre, the obs team was great, baby was out in under 5 minutes, and then given to us to resuscitate! Ah this baby gave us a run for our money!

I thank God, she’s now a fine, screaming baby girl but when I tell you, we bag while making our quiet prayers in these. And then the risk of permanent brain damage is also there. And also these babies usually experience trouble clotting and so you can think you are out of the gutters and then they bleed to death while in the NICU. 🥹

So, a great team, with well executed protocols is always perfect for these💯
But also early arrival to hospital is the BIGGEST PRIORITY! Because any second less, and I wouldn’t have even been called. It would just become an audit report like,” Mom arrived with no fetal heart beat.”

This mom fortunately, as soon as she saw blood, she called for help and rushed to the hospital.

It’s such an honor to work in the honor of saving lives and we always want to actually save these lives and getting early to the hospital is usually the biggest life saving decision you can make for you and your baby.

Our periods pre dispose us to anaemia, and for some it’s worse than others. As if that’s not enough, pregnancy adds salt to the injury please!

So here is a few tips of what we can do.
