Someone said it last weekend: for three days, the festival brought the holy trinity under one roof. Art, music, politics. Spot on.

Thank you to all the artists who trusted Soft Power Festival with their work and to the curators, galleries, collaborators, art handlers, technicians and producers who made it possible for so many different positions to inhabit the same space.

Soft power begins with what we make, but also with the conditions we create for others to encounter it.

That was Soft Power Festival 2026.

Then the exhibition became a listening lounge, a community radio station and a dancefloor.

Thank you to every musician, DJ, performer, dancer and sound artist who shaped the pulse of the festival and to everyone who listened, stayed late, danced, crossed from a talk into a set or met someone they hadn’t expected to meet.

Music reminded us that culture doesn’t only communicate through ideas. Sometimes power is a frequency, a room full of bodies, a shared rhythm, a night that changes how we feel around one another.

That was Soft Power Festival 2026.

At the festival, four answers came back: #power, said Lutz Henke @lutz.henke. #continuity said Tina Roeder @tinasroeder. #trust said Heiko Pfreundt @heikopfreundt
A #revolution said Anahita Sadighi @berlinartlover

Politics had its own place in the programme through talks and workshops, but it also ran through everything else: who gets space, who gets heard, who does the work, how resources circulate, which histories remain visible and what kinds of publics we choose to build.

Thank you to every artist, speaker, moderator, musician, DJ, cook, writer, collaborator, partner, technician, producer, volunteer and friend who gave their time, knowledge and energy to this second edition.

And thank you to everyone who walked through the doors, looked, listened, questioned, ate, talked, danced and stayed.

That was the Soft Power Festival 2026.

In focus : The Menu + The Decor of the installation

Anything but subtle, anything but singular, SPICE AS SOFT POWER invites us to ask ourselves what we mean when we say ‘Indian’. Presented at @softpowerfestival, this installation was a part of @berlinartweek 2026.

India.
Five letters with the power to conjure images of tigers, jungle, jasmine, heat, sun salutations, and mountains of textile, colour, and flavour.

Spicy.
Another five letters to sum it all up, right?
Perhaps you’ve already thought about when you last had a good curry. Perhaps you’ve broken into a light sweat at the mere idea of it. At what point did these two words become so interchangeable? At what cost?
These are just two of the questions that SPICE AS SOFT POWER asks us to dip into.

Here we’re offered two journeys: one to taste, one to smell, both to disrupt.

We had such a beautiful time performing at @softpowerfestival Festival, as part of @berlinartweek 💛

It was a really special experience to be part of such a warm and thoughtful event, surrounded by wonderful artists and people.

A big thank you to @berlinartlover and the whole team for putting everything together with so much care, and especially for making the artists feel so welcomed and looked after throughout the festival.

So happy Duos Duet could be part of it. ✨

Such a breath of fresh air to organize <Table as Stage> and think together with my guests and friends the potentials of the table: stage for nature and ways of being together.

What builds the cultural infrastructures of the future?

Each of the participants concluded with a word or an invocation for the incoming Governing Mayor:

Continuity. Power. Trust. Revolution.

That said, we look forward to @eliferalp leading in Berlin!

At the Soft Power Festival, Heiko Pfreundt, Anahita Sadighi, Tina Roeder, and Lutz Henke sat down with María Inés Plaza Lazo to talk about the challenges faced by Berlin’s independent and para-institutional cultural scene, amid burnout, funding that never translates into continuity, and the work of translating between the grassroots city and the city from above.

Anahita Sadighi is the founder and director of Soft Power, working across ancient and contemporary art and music to connect histories and forms of knowledge rarely placed in the same frame. She conceived the Soft Power Festival's artistic direction and held the overall vision for the programme. She brings this long view of culture into the present — and into the question of what institutions can be.
