Fragment: Growth II explores the encounter between sculptural form and natural mineral formation. A raw quartz cluster rises from the cuff like an emerging geological structure, transforming it into a fragment of landscape. Through layered papier-mâché, metallic pigments, and hand-built textures, the work evokes weathered stone while remaining unexpectedly light, revealing paper’s capacity to become another material.

« Fragment: Growth I »

Fragment: Growth I imagines the body as a site of mineral transformation. A natural aquamarine crystal emerges from a sculpted ear fragment, dissolving the boundary between anatomy and geology. Rather than serving as decoration, the crystal appears to grow from the surface, suggesting memory, vulnerability, and geological time. Hand-shaped papier-mâché becomes a mineral-like material, reinforcing the tension between fragility and permanence.

Very pleased to be part of Milano Jewelry Week 2026. Softruins Studio has been selected as an artist for the Artistar Jewels 2026 edition.

Founded in 2025 by Chinese artist and designer Jingyi Hu (@j_i_n_g_y_i), the France-based contemporary jewellery studio transforms recycled paper pulp into a durable, mineral-like material alongside raw crystals and metal structures. Each handcrafted piece explores the dialogue between fragility and permanence through sculptural forms, raw textures, and a minimalist aesthetic, challenging conventional perceptions of material while revealing the poetic potential of paper.

Two pieces from the studio will be presented during Milano Jewelry Week 2026, at Palazzo Bovara, Corso Venezia 51, Milan.
