Assumidamente influenciado por bandas como Ride, Stereolab, The Mighty Lemon Drops, Catherine Wheel, My Bloody Valentine e Pale Saints, o Soft Science (@softscienceband) é um quinteto de shoegaze “das antigas” que vem da Califórnia – e que com "Sand" chega ao quinto disco. Especificamente a citação (feita por eles) do Ride tem bastante a ver com o som do álbum, ainda mais lembrando do clima imersivo dos primeiros discos do grupo inglês.

Entre paredes de guitarras (de doze cordas!), sons próximos da psicodelia (especialmente a voz de Katie Haley, imersa em meio à instrumentação) e partículas de darkwave, "Sand" é assunto nosso hoje no Pop Fantasma. Link na bio!

Soft Science — “Spinning” (Shameless Promotion PR)

“Spinning” is a strong dream pop and shoegaze track with enough rhythm underneath it to keep it moving. It’s atmospheric, but not so hazy that the song gets lost. The vocals stay clear, the chorus is memorable, and the whole thing feels very controlled.

The song is about getting stuck in the same conversations and relationship patterns over and over again, which fits the wider theme of their new album Sand, released September 4, 2026 through Shelflife Records and Spinout Nuggets. by @softscienceband

I sat down with dream pop band Soft Science to talk about their latest album Sand, released on @shelfliferecords and @spinoutnuggets

Sand is ten tracks of immersive dream pop featuring layered guitars, ethereal vocals, synth textures, and post-punk influence. The album expands their sound while keeping the melodic clarity and emotional resonance that defines their work. It explores impermanence: how love, memory, and identity shift under pressure, and what it means to keep choosing connection in a world with no guarantees. Across the record, the band balances shimmering atmosphere with urgency and movement, shaping one of their most immersive and emotionally direct releases to date.

Sacramento shoegaze band Soft Science just released their full album Sand via Shelf Life Records in the US and Spinout Nuggets in the UK.

The band is Katie Haley on lead vocals and percussion, Matt Levine on lead guitar, his twin brother Ross Levine on guitar and backing vocals, Tony Cale on drums, Becky Cale on bass and backing vocals, and Hans Munz on electronics.
