Another sporadic post and another book event.

.
You know how much I love V.E Schwab and I did love Girlhood when I read it years ago. It was so interesting to hear these seasoned writers talk about exploring a different genre (and formats) with the added challenge of cowriting and balancing their narrative voices.

One this that especially stood out to me was the discussion around writing for the sake of writing and writing with the purpose of being read. I always find these sort of conversations absolutely fascinating.

I have been itching to get my hands on this book ever since it was announced, so off course I had to start reading immediately and I’m already having the best time 💛

What a lovely way to spend an evening.

It was an amazing experience getting to hear from Holly Black and Cassandra Clare. I’ve spent far too much time in Elfhame, and the Shaodwhunter world over the years. I particularly loved hearing how different their writing processes are. And extra shout out to Holly for being “the St.Bernard of Shadowhunters”

Any time spent basking in my favourite genre is time well spent. This time made even better by my lovely date for the evening. Many laughs were had, and many books bought (not by me this time!) 🫶

It was absolutely fascinating to hear Salman Rushdie speak at the Hay Festival yesterday. I’ve only read Midnight Children (shoutout to my contemporary fiction module at UoR) and I will admit that’s it’s far from a favourite. But he’s an excellently interesting speaker, with a fantastic sense of humour. And evening well spent in excellent company!

I spent the day recovering from the midnight release I went to last night and working (ewwww). But now I’m home and in bed with my book, a Horlicks, and a cupcake. I need maximum comfort for the trauma that SJM is about to put me through (and I’m sure I’ll thank her when it’s all over)

Tonight I got to see one of my favourite authors for the second time in my home city. This time the event was a lot bigger which is amazing to see so many reader enjoying these amazing books. I could listen to V.E Schwab talk for ever, and read her books over and over again. Each one is just so rich in prose and plot and character. I can’t wait for the perfect opportunity to go back home to Red London with The Fragile Threads of Power.
