Among the ruins of ancient Anatolia, the story of the early Church still echoes.
For more than twenty-five years, Dr. Mark Fairchild has returned to Türkiye to study the material world of the New Testament, from the submerged basilica at Nicaea to the rugged terrain of Rough Cilicia. In our latest feature, he reflects on history, hospitality, and why archaeology strengthens the Church today.

🕊 John MacArthur (1939–2025)
A faithful servant has gone home.

After 56 years of ministry at Grace Community Church, Pastor John MacArthur has finished his race. His legacy shaped pulpits and hearts around the world. Now, he sees his Savior face-to-face.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
— 2 Timothy 4:7 (ESV)

🕊 Pray for Pastor John MacArthur 🕊

Yesterday, Grace Community Church elder Tom Patton shared the following with the congregation:

“You need to know that this week, Pastor John contracted pneumonia. He was admitted in a hospital, and may be in the presence of the Lord soon. We place our dear pastor at the feet of the glorious Savior whom he has served so faithfully for so many years and now awaits His final command to be in His presence forever.”

Pastor John MacArthur has given his life to the preaching of the Word. For more than half a century, he has fed Christ’s sheep, declared the full counsel of God, and taught many of us how to stand when the world bows. The impact of his faithfulness is known around the globe, but more importantly, it is known in heaven.

As we consider the weight of this moment, we’re reminded of another pastor’s farewell: Paul’s parting words to the Ephesian elders in Acts 20. Like Paul, Pastor John has poured himself out for the Church:

“I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable… I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.” (Acts 20:20, 27)
“But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus…” (Acts 20:24)

Tom Patton’s words are not a resignation to death, they are a submission to Christ. “We place our dear pastor at the feet of the glorious Savior…” That is where every faithful servant must one day rest. And it is there, at the feet of Jesus, that we entrust him now.

So we ask you to pray.

Pray for Pastor John’s family. Pray for the elders and people of Grace Church. Pray that whether through healing or homegoing, Christ would be exalted. And pray that we would follow in the same footsteps of faithfulness, counting our lives as nothing for the sake of the gospel of grace. by @sojournermag

📍New on Sojourner:
"Mercy Wears a Badge"
An interview with Sheriff Jonathan Horton of Etowah County, Alabama.

How does a man called to enforce the law live out the mercy of Christ? Sheriff Horton talks gospel-shaped justice, second chances, and carrying the weight of leadership under the cross.

This one’s about more than law enforcement. It’s about image-bearers, grace, and the glory of God in the hard places.

New Article: Why the American Church Can’t Ignore Hispanic Ministry

The nations are at our doorstep, not by accident, but by divine providence. The question is not primarily political. It’s pastoral, missional, and biblical.

The Church cannot stay silent. Hispanic ministry is not optional. It’s gospel obedience.

Not flashy. Not poetic. Just faithful.
On the final night of youth camp, a pastor from Bonham, Texas, who brought 9 kids to camp back in 2004, sat down and wrote a quiet reflection.

This year? 83 students. Some were the children of former campers.

His journal entry isn’t polished. It doesn’t need to be. It’s a glimpse of what God can do through ordinary people who just keep showing up, loving students, opening the Bible, and staying the course.
