Another studio test 🎥

This time we worked with the @nisi_south_africa Athena 85mm,135mm.
Paired with the Final Boss @fujifilm_sa ETERNA 55.

Because both lenses are designed for 35mm coverage, the ETERNA 55 has a much larger sensor, so we do get some vignetting. This wasn’t a deal breaker for me though. Definitely a give and take type of decision that you make when choosing this kit.

One of my favourite things about this test was seeing how the focal lengths translate on the larger sensor. The 85mm reads closer to a 55mm, while the 135mm comes in around a 90mm. Which I thought was amazing and introduced such interesting fall off on the images.

Studio Tests

Put the @fujifilm_sa ETERNA 55 paired with @nisi_south_africa 65 LF PRIME 16mm T.2.9

This lens caught me off guard.

For someone who prefers wider focal lengths this lens was perfect.

No funny funny lens distortions or any weird crooked lines, no vignetting whatsoever and it’s pretty lightweight for what it offers

It’s also the first lens in NiSi’s new 65 PRIME Large Format range, FULL SENSOR COVERAGE.

One of the things I was most excited to test with the @fujifilm_sa GFX ETERNA 55 was how its large format sensor would pair with vintage medium format glass.

Organic falloff, smooth depth, and a look that’s difficult to replicate.

“I titled my show after a phrase by Jackson Hlungwani, an iconic South African sculptor. When asked how he was, he’d say, “Like a fish in the water.”

This deeply resonated with me, as it felt like a reminder to himself that he was exactly where he was meant to be grounded and in harmony with his purpose.”

‘Like a Fish in the Water’ is currently on view at Southern Guild Los Angeles until 1 February, 2025.

I had the privilege of spending time with Jackson Hlungwani’s son, Gazaland, as we explored the pilgrimage his Dad created, which culminated in “New Jerusalem” a place where he intertwined preaching and healing with his art.

I’m thankful for @sokhaya ‘s generosity to travel with me to document some of these intimate moments 👊🏿
