since 2021, the phrase “trust your gut” has been incredibly ironic to me.

it’s been 5 years since I was diagnosed with crohn’s disease in the midst of grad school. 5 years of chronic pain, medication trials, trigger-food-findings, aaand we’re still figuring things out.

somewhere along the way, I found a lot of comfort in crochet and knitting. the knowing that even if I couldn’t move my physical body on tough days, I could pick up my latest projects to keep my hands (and mind) busy.

as a chronically ill girlie, I know I’m not alone in holding fiber arts as a lifeline. it made sense to combine the two in creation of this piece. and while it may never see beyond my apartment walls, it serves as a conversation starter — a physical reference of an invisible disability that is greatly misunderstood, under-researched, underfunded.

tl;dr a gut that attacks itself (without intervention) is not to be trusted. it’s funny. you can laugh.

anyway, where should I hang her? (don’t say above the toilet lol)
