THANK YOU! My heart is so warm reading what you have had to say. ♥️

I have been so busy since officially launching my interior architectural design business, but I have finally made time to start curating my page! To revamp my casual portfolio page that I never knew would turn into a whole business, of which I started over 6 years ago when I was knee-deep in corporate interior architecture, to slowly curating my new look and feel, this feels so utterly right.

I feel blessed to be here, and to have you join the journey.

As @solcakeinteriors, I took a (very special) meeting today behind this building, and I had such a full circle moment and feeling of gratitude. I had to pause and take a photograph and so many memories and feelings flooded into my heart.

This was my first huge turnkey project back when I had just turned 21 years old, freshly baking at the start of my corporate interior design and architecture career.

I was living in my home city, Durban, at the time and my work flew me to Cape Town to assist with directing the project. I arrived on site with my curiosity, nerves, pink hard hat and a clipboard with my drawings. I had no idea what to expect, just that this was my project and I could finally be a bossy boots 🤣

Surrounded by a group of very tall men, when I introduced myself, I was asked something along the lines of “Who are you? We are waiting for the architect”. and with courage I said “I am the architect.” and that was the start of a very long journey of trying to understand how to be taken seriously as a woman in the very male-dominated field of construction.

I have now been in the trade for just under 10 years, and you couldn’t pay me enough to back down. I take up space, and I will continue to take space — even more than before! Not in a “hah I’ll show you!” way but in a “Wow, I am actually so worthy of being in these rooms… Of DESIGNING these rooms.” Unlike before, I now only work with people who are aligned with my ethics. I say no to clients who are not. I walk away when I am unsafe. I protect myself in ways I couldn’t have done in the past.

This timeline has been slow but so necessary. So many layers are finally shedding all at once.

With a people-first lens, so much compassion and empathy, and patience (still working on this hahaha) — I believe this journey will continue for a lifetime.

And I’m so excited because I’m actually only getting started 💛 by @solcakeinteriors
