Last night, several Willimantic and Connecticut State Police officers shut down our set at the @thedogp0und x @the.inkwell.willi show in Willimantic, CT.

The first officer grabbed our mics without warning, then grabbed Jake’s guitar from him. Other officers began unplugging our equipment, pushing members of the crowd, and ordering people out.

The venue had a permit, it was before noise curfew, and there were no violations of any kind. Police began shutting down the show before checking the venue’s permit or reviewing its paperwork. There was no attempt to calmly assess the situation first. Instead, officers physically interfered with the performance and made aggressive remarks, including telling us we would be “fucking arrested” if we didn’t comply.

We’ve dealt with police disrupting shows since our earliest days playing around UConn. This time, we have video showing the kind of unnecessary and unjust treatment musicians and independent music spaces in our scene have been dealing with for years.

If this is how police choose to use their authority and resources, we have serious questions about their priorities. A peaceful, permitted live music event should never be met with physical intimidation and unnecessary escalation. If officers respond this aggressively in a safe, orderly setting, it raises even more serious questions about how they exercise that authority when the stakes are higher.

They will never stop the music.

We’ll see you at the next show, family ❤️‍🔥🎶

As a fusion band, we are most deeply inspired by reggae. Its influence on our songwriting has developed naturally over years of immersion in the music.
Recently, we were stoked to learn we were nominated for the 2026 @nemusicawards “Roots Artist of the Year.” We know “roots” is a broad term that encompasses many genres, like blues and folk, but we noticed that Solgyres and @theelovaters were the only two reggae-adjacent acts among 22 nominees.
So we wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some amazing Connecticut-based artists who have been carrying reggae music forward:
@princenegasi , @soulsofzion , @toplane_music , @ianbassa , @vassellmeka

Check them out and support local reggae! 🎶

FROGGY NIGHT FRI 10/2 IN WILLIMANTIC - AN OUTSIDE SHOW WITH A STACKED LINEUP TO HONOR WILLIMANTIC’S LEGACY WITH THE FROGS...

We are being graced with the sonic waves and sounds of @solgyres @newfareband @dogdrivetheband and @band.brokenthrone !!!

This show is outdoors! Please plan accordingly 💚

Theme: dress green or wear frog/nature themed apparel

Fri 10/2, $10 suggested donation, music @ 7:30pm
at The Inkwell in Willimantic, 754 Main St. Willimantic, CT

History / The reason there are frogs all over Willimantic:

The Battle of the Frogs[a] was a frog-related incident in the Connecticut Colony town of Windham in 1754.[b]

On a summer night in June or July, the people of Windham were awakened by a mysterious loud noise whose source they could not identify. The French and Indian War had recently broken out and, fearing an attack, a scouting party was sent out to investigate. By the morning, it was discovered that the sound was American bullfrogs, hundreds to thousands of which were found dead in a nearby mill pond.

News of Windham’s embarrassing “battle” with the frogs spread throughout the colony and became a running joke in the region. Ballads and exaggerated accounts of the incident proliferated. The townspeople adopted the frog as a mascot of the community, creating a town seal with a frog and using frog vignettes on Windham Bank currency. The comic opera The Frogs of Windham was written about the Battle of the Frogs. The Thread City Crossing in Willimantic is colloquially known as the “Frog Bridge” for the enormous copper frogs that perch at each corner.

Various theories for the behavior of the frogs have been raised. Some sources attest to a severe drought that summer and it has been speculated that the frogs fought among themselves for access to scarce water. Other explanations suggested that there had been an outbreak of disease or a lekking amongst the frogs.
