It’s #MakerMonday! As we honor and celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month, we are shining a spotlight on Austin-based Founder Emlyn Roesler and her business @solid.soaps. 🧼🫧

Emlyn began her journey with a simple act of care, handmaking playful, heartfelt gifts for loved ones. What started as an experiment with a melt-and-pour kit has since evolved into a thoughtful and intentional craft practice rooted in both science and creativity. Today, Emlyn brings that same spirit to every bar she creates, transforming a daily routine into a meaningful ritual.

Founded in 2018, Solid Soaps reflects Emlyn’s commitment to sustainability, quality, and mindful production. Using the cold process method, each bar is made with vegan ingredients, natural colorants, and carefully selected fragrances or essential oils, all designed with minimal waste and maximum care. After transitioning from a career in nursing to pursue her craft full-time, Emlyn continues to infuse her work with purpose, offering products that are as functional as they are beautiful, and inviting customers to make everyday moments a little more intentional.

On the importance of AANHPI Heritage Month, she stated, “May is always a meaningful month for me because we honor the history and cultural impact of AANHPI communities. I’m proud to be an AANHPI maker and creative because I get to share my Filipino culture through my craft, and the nostalgic scents of Solid Soaps resonate across cultures.”

“Solid Soaps has partnered with Nest in several ways: I participated in the Craft Convening in 2023, the Makers Future Fund in 2025, and hosted soap making workshops for the Nest team during their visits to Austin,” said Emlyn. “Being part of Nest has been empowering; the resources and support for artisans have made a significantly positive impact on my small business.”

July recap 🌿

What a month! So much has happened, but I also feel like I’ve been standing still. I announced that I’m moving to Spain on IG, and I offered 20% off all of my products online. Y’all have been sooooo supportive and amazing with the messages and buying your Solid Soaps goodies. Thank you. 🙏🏽

John left for Spain on July 20th. We were supposed to follow in a couple of weeks. He came back to Austin on July 26th because we had to re-file for the kids’ and my visas (the consulate needed more documents), and he didn’t want to be away from us for at least another week. We have an apartment in Málaga just waiting for us to arrive, and I can’t wait to show you the view! John set up the utilities, internet, and we have some furniture now.

Solid Soaps’ last popup was at Nordstrom on July 26th. Hannah helped with this one bc I was still single parent life at the time.

I’ve been chugging away at packing and shipping orders, delivering products to my wholesale and consignment shops around town, and tidying up Stu before the big move. The shelves are becoming more empty. The last soap I made was the coffee / kape soap.

The kids are getting more and more excited about Spain. We re-housed the chickens to a neighbor, but we’ve still been visiting them every week. They have been enjoying their summer with lots of pool time, library visits, hanging out with friends, and Hablemos Spanish camp. They made a penguin cake at camp!

We resubmitted our paperwork a week ago. Still waiting on the Spanish Consulate for our visas. Hoping to make the move to Spain in the next week, but we’ll see! 🤞🏽

Late to post about this, but that’s my life lately… just trying to get through the daily tasks, and sometimes things have to wait until the next day (or week). 🤪

Get this, y’all: Solid Soaps is 8 years old! I started this business back in April 2018 when I was 6 months pregnant with Roscoe, we had a 1.5 year old Jocelyn, and I was working as an advanced practice nurse in cardiology. What was I thinking?! I was thinking it’d be fun and exciting to learn something new.

Fast forward to April 30, 2021: my last day as an APN in adult CHF. 5 years ago I became a full-time soap maker!

And here we are, already in May of 2026. The year of the Fire Horse is full of changes, decisions, and momentum. I’ve been quiet about it because things aren’t completely finalized, but Solid Soaps is growing! I’m looking at a commercial space for Solid Soaps, I’m looking to grow the team, and we’re looking to go international. You read that right: INTERNATIONAL!

In the midst of all the chaos, I’m trying to take time to enjoy the present, remind myself of how far we’ve come, and get excited about the future. Enjoy these blast-from-the-past photos, and thanks for following along this journey. ✊🏽

Mom & Me Soap Making Popup @parkerandscott

What an amazing morning! We did a popup style soap making workshop, and it was a blast. So many fun soaps were made!

Big thanks to @parkerandscott for sharing their space, @stinkybabymatcha coming through with the delicious drinks, and @tasty_amys for sampling. @burlapandtwineatx bouquets sold like hotcakes, and it was really great so see the community shopping small and local for Mother’s Day weekend.

One of my favorite things about being a business owner is I get to share my work with my kids. 🥰
