@SolomonHillfleet launches "Primers" on Juneteenth.

"Juneteenth is the day the last enslaved people in America learned what had already been true for two and a half years — that they were legally free. The Emancipation Proclamation had been signed in January 1863. The Civil War ended in April 1865. But in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived with the news that most people in that place had been deliberately kept from knowing."

"The history of Black America is full of that gap — between what is true and what people are allowed to know. Between what happened and what gets taught. Between the full story and the version that makes everyone comfortable."

"Primers" is Solomon Hillfleet's attempt to close some of that gap.
